Morning all, my 318is door lock on the drivers door isn't working. ive taken the door card off and from what I can see (which isn't a lot) part of the mechanism has broken.
now; ive found a complete door off a touring and was wondering if anyone knows if the set up is the same?

If they both have central locking then the drivesr door locks should be the same.
There's a good write up about changing it here: http://www.billswebspace.com/BMWE30Door ... ebuild.htm

Don't waste your time. Spend £20 at your local dealer and you will get a complete new lock in kit form that you build up to match your key.

If it is the lock cylinder mechanism itself (the little arm is a good bet) then the rebuild kit is the answer. Did mine a short while ago and it works like new. The reinstall job is a little fiddly particularly if you have big hands but persistence pays off.

cheers all, basically i can pull the barrel out from the outside, so it appears as if all the gubbins has come off/away from the back of it.

There is a U shaped fitting that slides into a groove in the lock body against the inside of the door shell that secures the lock body otherwise the lock just wiggles out. Sounds like that is gone.
