I'm on the cusp of some BL rightness - Maxi or Allegro, not sure which. I don't do Maelstroms or Montenogos though unless MG flavour. The MG Maestro 2.0i was a very capable machine and vastly underrated.

1500 quid and it's not even a diesel. That's bridge money and no more.

I very nearly did a deal on a maestro van with a T-series engine, went like absolute stink and it was mint. Just didn't fancy having engine problems. But it was a cool van.

I'm surprised you've not had one on your ramp at work tbh.

What makes you say that?

I did the odd bits on my old college tutors maestro van, it always ended in aggro.

Yes, but they're just so hard to find now.

Just an in-joke. Mention a car here and you've had one in at work. Just kidding.
When I worked at Unipart I knew a few blokes at Cowley (now the Mini factory) who knew about the 190 bhp prototype T Series MG Maestro turbo. It was a fucking animal and they made a 150 bhp n/a version that was said to be quick and really nice to drive.

Modern classic? :o  Just look at it FFS! Compared to pretty much anything German at the time this sort of shite was at least 10 years behind

I had a Montego company car as a demonstrator to trial when I was a rep in the eighties.......... until I got out of the car to move some cones in a supermarket car park, forgot handbrake and off it trundled down a steep hill.

After bouncing off a few things the state of the bodywork after convinced my company it was not up to the job. As for the handbrake thing, well it had just failed to do its job properly, obviously! :o:

We have over 100 different cars through a week, so I work on a fair few cars.

Never had a maestro in, fortunately.

My old man had a 1.6L Montego after the late 80's facelift on a G plate I think it was about 1 year old when we got it. In all honesty it was quite a nice car - it had most of the stuff you could want including electric front windows, manual sunroof, Rev counter, very good Philips stereo, comfy seats, good heater and 2 tone white and grey paint job.

It was definitely better than the C plate 1.3 Escort Laser it replaced where the rear arches had rotted out in less than 4 years

Unfortunately some toerag pinched it and burned it out not long after we bought it. WTF appeal a 1.6L montego had to a car thief I have no idea 8O

Despite the old man having some BL stuff when I was a nipper I just can't get excited about this stuff.

I'd quite like a GT6 or a late model dolomite but apart from that there's no other proper BL stuff on my list.

+1 My dad was a proper buy British type, Mini van, Morris Traveller, Marinas, Montegos etc. When the British motor industry no longer offered a mid-range estate car - he wasn't up for the Lynx Eventer I suggested :( - he bought a heavily discounted run-out 405 GLX, it seemed much more fun to drive/ less cr&p than all the British stuff :(

Not a chance. :D

The seventies British stuff is all tongue in cheek anyway. Nobody takes it seriously, unless it's got a Ford badge in which case it's worth 13 million quid.

The Avenger is on the shortlist as well, but it has to be a proper Hillman with the boomerang tail lights.

Come on Dan, lets see pics of your....sorry, your friend's VDP Bad Boy.
