got my car back from body shop i have a roof problem wonder if any one has any advise or suggestions, first the rear flap would not operate sorted this by replacing clip as suggested by willnz this now works fine.
when i try to close the roof the rear part of the roof will not lift up and the rear flap tries to close on the roof (ie the rear bit should lift up the flap drops close and the rear of the roof should drop down) .
failing this any one know who i can get to take a look or if the darlestone boys are still about thanks

Never had any dealings with the E30 electric roof, but a broken front of the motor is a well known failure, and the standard repair is to replace with an aftermarket casing of an improved design, such as you seem to have found.

Hi I have experience of fixing these, Bally. If the main motor is broken (a common problem) it can be fixed with a steel plate. These were available on eBay for about £50, but I think Prices have gone up a lot if they are now £190!!
However, fitting these plates is simple, but before you buy one check and show us where the motor is broken first. You can drop it down into the boot space and have a look.
The plate fix may cure your roof operation problem, but for the main motor to have broken it will have been put under tremendous force, which will also have damaged the opening and closing rods. Check these to see that they are straight.
I'll post up pics, but can only do this on Monday if that's ok. I'm sure WillNZ may help with images before I get the chance.
