Anyone know anything more on this? Will it be like the BRZ, same car different badges?
Some worrying news coming out of BMW recently, Van Meel etc.

This might crush you... but we can never be friends.
I think it's a terrible idea. Terrible IF they end up being badged BMW and Toyota.

I'm sorry, come over and see my Pot Noodle vending machine....
Toyota isn't in the same league... in relation to brand positioning anyway. Can't see it doing anything other than damaging the already damaged brand of BM.

They haven't hit rock bottom yet.... (A Toybota with a BM badge might be rock bottom)
Although have you seen the X6M and the other fleet of mistakes...
Ze German's have killed for lesser failures.
Wouldn't make sense considering the Chinese Market. Being a Japanese company there is a major liability.

This smells like a first date before world domination takeover.
To mess with GM, VAG Porsche and Renault / Nissan and all the other world beating team ups BMW need to expand and there's only so much M-Badges faux model variant shite they can sell to russians and chinese.
Toyota get the know how and prestige out of it maybe - they don't need the muscle.
How long can BMW go it alone without at least engine / parts team ups.
I could be talking mollocks as I'm sure BMW's latest quarterly's are very healthy.

No, Gooner. Don't rationalise it! I think it's a terrible idea, my mind is made up.
We don't even know if it will result in them sharing a model.. could just be an exchange of tech.

Mazda and Alfa are platform sharing for the next MX5 and Spider. I don't think most buyers give a toss as long as the badge is right. Look at the A class Merc. Take a car that's nearly as good as an Astra, add a three pointed star and add ££££ = prestige.*
*whatever that is.

bab, why so negative??
if those pictures are anything to go by it looks fantastic, though the finalmdel could look (slightly) different,
there's been so many teams ups between euro/jap/yank/uk car makers over the years that it comes as no surprise really.
just look at audi & Porsche with the RS2,
that was a success,

if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

I think it looks horrendous...
and the RS2 wasn't sold by Porsche, they just breathed on it... also Audi is a strong brand so it wouldn't damage either brand to cooperate.
Porsche actually assembled the car, but I get your point

There is also a link between Audi & Porsche via Piëch (A grandson of Ferdinand Porsche) who became a chairman and CEO of the Volkswagen Group.
It was only agreed to because Porsche was performing badly in the early 90's... so take from that what you will.

A friend of mine has one and although a lovely wagon, it's not the be-all-end-all, bit disappointed driving the thing as I'd always built them up in my mind as some super-rapid wagon! But it's not like I'd say no to owning it thoughbab-91 wrote:I'd imagine the majority are already owned by collectors that have squirrel'ed them away.

I'm surprised it's only £18.5k, weren't these produced in limited numbers? Plus you would imagine VAG scummers would sell their children to own such a 'prestigious' turd.
I've heard the same about the Audi Quattro U-R, seen Jalopnk shared some period reviews for it which showed it isn't what enthusiasts have built it up to be. Strange, eh?suchy wrote:A friend of mine has one and although a lovely wagon, it's not the be-all-end-all, bit disappointed driving the thing as I'd always built them up in my mind as some super-rapid wagon!
