Hi All,

I'm rebuilding my 325i M20 and hoping to re-use my pistons. Cleaned them up today and there is some wear in the side skirts. The wear doesn't feel rough under the finger but you can see it has worn away the horizontal machined bands of the piston skirts about 1 inch wide level with the wrist pin. I have measured the pistons at ~83.93mm and the cylinders at 83.98mm which I believe is within tolerance to be perfectly useable. What do people think? Useable or not?

TIA

Give them a light rub with some scotch bright just to polish them up a little and use them, they will be fine.
Worst case you might get a tiny bit of piston slap when cold but I doubt the wear you have is enough to make it noticeable.

What would have caused such wear? :?
