ok guys ive a good question from across the pond (south carolina u.s.a )
why are the european bmws ive seen have a license " tray" behind the license plate on the rear and why is it usually black ? i was thinking of trying to reproduce this look on my 87 325i cabrio , or maybe not but i'm still curious . thanks in advance ,

Wrong thread but never mind, I dont know why we have it?? But at a good guess is because car manufacturers cater for different tastes in the car market!

its only on our cars built from september 1988 on, have seen early e30's with it.
