I've been thinking about the 2.7 trick - will this work with a 1990cc block? Would need to change the final drive ratio, too, or have too many revs and too much fuel burn on a motorway. Any other mods required? ECU? Injectors, manifolds?

It's the fairly standard conversion using the eta crank from the 525e to give the longer stroke plus lightweight pistons, etc, etc. I also have a MAF conversion which increases throttle responses and helps to overcome the torque converter 'lag' a bit. The car's in the Members E30s - 2.7 section at the top of the page although I've had a few things done since the spec was written. If you go the the tuning route, go for torque enhancement rather than bhp alone. A lot of the obvious tweaks like induction and exhaust can push the available torque up the rev range and you can end up with little improvement in normal driving situations - i.e. away from the lights!
I'm no guru on the subject - this is just from my own (expensive) learning curve!

Yes you could use a 2.0l block but would need the bores enlarging to 84mm. You would need to change the final drive as the 320 usually has a 4.10 diff which is small case and would probably break. Acceleration would be rapid but it will just run out of revs too quickly.BlackCabrio wrote:I've been thinking about the 2.7 trick - will this work with a 1990cc block? Have a search through the forum, there's a lot if info on this subject and most of your questions will probably be answered in other threads.

Thanks - that's helped me make my mind up - I'll go for some less radical mods first.
Like the new sound system I put in this week. May the journey take longer!
Seriously, I thoink I'll start with the bbtb and chip mods. It's just I've got an exhaust manifiold stud sheared, and that looks like a headoff job, so my mind wandered into what else might be worth doing at the same time.

Impressed!
What does it do to the insurance premium? I'm paying a ridiculous 150 quid at present (over 50, rural location, 10k/year mileage, full ncb too).
Which is the cheapest thing about owning an E30 so far !
