You can't even get a decent new set of aftermarket mats for an E30 now. Its either no colour match, crap quality carpet or poor fit and / or no locking pins.
So even without the heel pad, I'd still pay £60+ for a nice set of proper mats.
If the heel pad is the same for the other BMWs of the era, then thats opens that up too - 5s, 6s etc.

Same heel pad as some E24 E28 and E34 mats.

Royalratch wrote:It will be very easy. Its only cost that holds things back. First of all, I have already found a mould maker and have a conservative estimate - read the posts. It could get lower. Technology has changed the game now. This is much easier than it used to be. Rule number 1 - don't listen to any negatrons.
I'm not bothered by copyright. The only thing BMW could hassle me for is the logo usage. Theres ways around that. No distributor - no need for such small runs.
@Polsta - I had thought about funding it myself but I don't see it as a money maker at all - its a fun project and a challenge. Disagree on price - £100 is still good value, in line with BMWs current stuff. Much more than that will be a tough sell.
I'm also looking into fast ratio rack and pinion sets that go straight into an E30 rack - direct bolt on. Working with an CNC genius who's done stuff for my bikes. Thats another story.
I'd say this - defo s good long term money maker and sets would always sell regular, if say x amount of zoners paid 150-170 or whatever a set to cover the 1250 mould cost .. Then whoever had that mould would have it paid for and sell sets continuously and make good money off the back of them zoners covering that initial cost , would be fair enough if a lot of zoners got the initial ones done to get sets reasonable price
Anyway , would be a good earner for someone to cover that outlay have the exclusive rights on the mould and make good long term money,IF the sets were good , a good indication would be to check ebay listings and see how many sold ?

Re quick rack internals; a zoner has already done that. I'll find the thread later. Not cheap and to be honest, apart from for the rally boys a bit pointless IMO. Z3/e46 racks are quick enough

It's not about the speed but the fitment. Rack spacers, bodged up UJs and hacked in hydraulic hosing - it's not the most elegant process.

If I fund it myself I'd just fix a price of say £80-90. The fluctuation is to do with woven edges costing more. That price is cost - no profit. It would never come down tho. Once I'd broken even it would be profitable but I guess 'who fronts wins' eh? At least everyone pays the same and early adopters don't fund cheaper runs for later sales.
By the way, that price of £85ish - around 80% of that is the carpet cost. The remaining is to recoup the cost of the mould and heeelpad units. So you can see you have to sell at least 20-30 to get the set up cost to a reasonable place.
What I need is someone to lend me their Mat set so I can judge their template accuracy and obviously heelpad replication. That person will be without the mat for a good few weeks - I'll sort them out 50% off or something for the hassle.
Anyone?

Fairly sure he did. Think it is the chap who is building Chris Harris' m3?
DanThe hoses and splined shaft are a very elegant solution IMO. The first hoses I had were awful, rubber jobs that looked a right mess and were cable tied to the subframe etc. Dan's are much better and great fitment

With Direct experience (in the manufacturing/import industry as I type this) the Chinese are bothered, as are the UK Distributor. The tool makers are often twitchy about it as well.Kos wrote:The UK distributor could beminesapint wrote:The Chinese aren't bothered by copyright.getting someone to replicate that heel pad is not going to be easy for 2 reasons
1, they need to make a mould and that's not cheap
2, copyright
BMW can be pretty protective of the logo, ask marcos and their mini marcos.
Without the logo its happy days, but with it a difficult one.
I know it has been commented that it is on for profit, but somewhere along the lines someone will make money from the deal and that's where it all falls down.

Read up on intellectual property rights. You cannot use the BMW logo and they are one of the most litigious companies around.

What is the score with mobile tradition anyway? Thought after a certain amount of orders they consider remanufacturing. Perhaps a better way to go to get a genuine mat?

It is not illegal to reproduce these. It would be illegal to sell. I know more about IP than that idiot Gert could begin to fathom.
If you lot want mats for our small twisted community then roll with this. Or keep throwing up roadblocks and let's get nothing done.

You really do need to consider your manners, you arrogant PIG.
I made allowances for your period yesterday, but it seems you are not feeling any better today.
You are unique in you're a know it all, but actually know nothing.
I checked - nothing racist in that before you go crying to the mods again!

If all of you placed an order collectively together for E30 3 Series velour floor mats RHD with BMW Park Lane Classic would that stipulate their minimum order requirement to start reproduction of New Genuine BMW RHD floor mats for E30s ?
They often need minimum order requirements for parts which are NLA to have reproduction of parts.
Certainly they will make a note of all the orders and when large enough will produce parts

Its been discussed before and its out of the question - you'd need at least 500-1000. You want to wait for that?pony wrote:If all of you placed an order collectively together for E30 3 Series velour floor mats RHD with BMW Park Lane Classic would that stipulate their minimum order requirement to start reproduction of New Genuine BMW RHD floor mats for E30s ?

@Diable
The mats are made in one place - no problem there. The heel pad is made elsewhere. So at the very least we'll get nice mats. If people want to take the risk and sweat the extreme danger of being thrown in prison for 'adding' a reproduction heelpad then its up to them
All those MTEC goodies online, badges and stickers and all this fake BMW alloys out there - whats happening there? BMW don't care. If they aren't going after them, then this is a drop in the ocean compared.
Its not actually illegal to use the logo for non-profit, non commercial pursuits - art projects for example. Its not even illegal to buy - only to sell. A (small) bit of imagination needed to get round this.
I can't believe we're really heaving this discussion - its only an issue of someone makes it one.

Pasting? What are you talking about? You need to revise your medication. This is an open forum and I am entitled to make my comments. None have been malicious, so I don't understand your problem - you do have a problem though. Unfortunately, it hasn't sunk in that you're tolerated, not liked by anyone.Royalratch wrote:Scum like you don't deserve manners. You haven't got the message yet. Stay out of my way. Is there a pill to take to stop you accusing other zoners of defrauding money from other zoners? Something along the paranoid schizophrenia / bipolar lines? What a knob.Gert_8 wrote:You need to revise your medication.

Can you show me where I have accused you of defrauding zoners (do you even understand the meaning of the word?). I don't think you do.
What I said was (I'm saying this slowing so that you can understand)
IT IS IN YOUR INTERESTS TO GET THE ZONE INVOLVED IN MANUFACTURING YOUR SHITTY MATS TO MITIGATE THE COST OF MANUFACTURE. NO ONE, YOU INCLUDED, WILL PAY THE ONE OFF £££ OF OBTAINING A SET
if I'm claiming you are defrauding the zone based on the above, I'd advise you to think about taking legal advice.

What are you gaining from doing all this? Why are you doing this? I know why I'm on this thread - why are you? Its really a sick twisted individual that continues to hassle someone, where he has no interest in the subject, no interest in the poster and only interested in being a cunt of the highest order.Gert_8 wrote:Can you show me where I have accused you of defrauding zoners (do you even understand the meaning of the word?). You don't know me or what I will or won't do. Go hassle someone else - its all you're good for you complete waste of space sack of shit.
Fraud - You said I would only go ahead with this if there were enough orders so that my mats are free to me. This suggests a fraudulent intent contrary to what I have been saying. So now I'll talk slowly - do the maths and think about what your statement means.
I've tried to stay out of certain idiots way since being back on here this past week but if you look at every thread I've started, the same fools wade in with the usual bait and noise. Even when I ignore them it keeps coming.
The zone sucks right now. That kind of bullshit should be reserved for certain areas. Not be allowed to run riot on threads like this by cunts like Gert and Kos.

Hahahaha funny c unt.
I love this thread, it's actually becoming more interesting by the day. I'd like to buy two sets now (or when you project results in anything) one for the car and one for the future because these will sell of £1k in time.
Thanks very much. I don't know what the zone would do without you. I'm surprise BMW themselves haven't head hunted you.
With your arrogance, I guess you will have turned them down anyway.
Why do you mention Kos. He's also offered decent comments.
make that 3 sets, no, 4, I can see the potential now.

The BMW brand is one of the top brands in the world, it's globally recognised and respected (I don't need to tell you that seeing you're a marketing executive, formerly of saatchi & saatchi) and BMW will do all possible to protect it

The classic guy is on holiday ATM but I will find out what the minimum order is to see whether we can get reproduced. Was thinking 100 orders from the Zone and we are doing E30 owners a favour.
