Are these the same?
I've been told cabs have M Tech suspension as standard so I'd assume so.
Just wondering if I put on a Tech II kit will the car have the same stance as a Motorsport cab without having to change the suspension?

it depends on what suspension your car came with new?
if u fitted an m-tech kit to your 316i on standard suspension would that look any lower?!

I'm talking about the suspension on my 318i cab.....I've gathered from a few people that cabs and Tourings came with M Tech suspension as standard so I'm just wondering if it has the same ride height as a Motorsport cab.

i thought all cabs and tourings came with rear discs and larger 51mm front struts?
any car including the motorsport cab with m-tech suspension were 15-20mm lower than standard

This may well be true yeah but not entirely relevant.

That's what I was wondering.....so if I M-Tech kitted the cab it'd sit the same as a Motorsport cab
That's all I wanted to know

But remember u will want proper cab springs not saloon ones!
Aftermarket Cab springs are very expensive H&R's Ԛ£200!

I've done a little digging on the ETK...
All convertible rear shock absorbers are the same regardless of engine, the part number for the M-tech part is the same as the standard part.
The rear spring shows a different part number between the M-tech part and the standard. (obviously for the lower ride height)
Fronts are obviously going to be different for the reason of engine weight.
But...when you look up the front shock absorbers for a cab 318i, it lists the M-tech shocker and the standard shocker with the same part number again.
So, it seems to me, that all cabs have M-tech shock absorbers, but not the M-tech springs, unless otherwise specified, this makes sense also when you look at the option price for M-tech suspension when new...for a cab it was Ԛ£112, for a normal 2 door 318i for example it would have cost Ԛ£208.
Hope that helps!

Ahhhhhh I see, that clears it up. I thought shocks
and springs were M Tech but obviously not.
Kermit, I'd looked into what the aftermarket springs cost and that's why I was asking the question. Seems I'll have to save up a bit more to make it look just right if I do decide to Tech II it then
Cheers Simon & Simon

got a set of Pi springs which seem ok and were only about 120squids, they work fine for a budget lowering. (yeah all you naysayers can slate my cheap springs now

)
this is a 40 mm drop, ride is not too harsh and handling is no different except less roll.

Looks a decent stance for the money, have found them for 90 squids as well
If those are 40mm springs the 60/40 idea goes out the window though
M3 Simon, am I right in thinking that to get the same ride height as the Motorsport cabs I'd just need M Tech springs? That's the look I'm after really.

Yes mate, but don't forget, if they are from a 325i, then they won't lower as much on the front. Ideally, you need to find a 4 cyl car that was optioned with M-tech suspension from new, and have the front springs off that car.

I was gonna go to the dealers for the springs, or would they take the piss?
Will be difficult finding a 318i convertible with M Tech springs being broken I thought!

Why would the dealers take the piss? They'll happily take your money.
With all the people on here taking out 318 lumps and fitting 325s, I would have thought theres plenty of 4 cylinder front springs around, including m-tech from a touring.

I meant with how much they'd charge...
I thought convertible springs were unique, if touring springs will fit that's good news
Would 2 door/4 door springs work for the front as well?

The springs are expensive from the dealers, I think they're about Ԛ£60 each.
Any 4 pot spring will be ok for the front, you just need to make sure they are from an M-tech car.
Some M3 front springs would be nice!

Surely you need these^ and just some normal 318is front springs? Or any other 4pot lowered springs.
By the way 51mm IS springs fit thinner struts so it doesn't matter where they from
