dyno dynamics just multiply bhp x 0.8 to get wheel hp and from wheel hp /0.8 to get bhp.

it doesnt measure coastdown losses like others
Why is it 0.8 ?

Some pics below:

With the M52, I was a little surprised as the Rolling road print out I have when it was another zones has the peak at 225bhp. The dude there thinks the MAF might be dodgy but other people suggested the coolant temp sensor or the oxygen sensors.

I have a MAF from a e46 328i - Is it the same MAF as i could try that and see if it helps. Regarding the map of the ECU, i'm not sure (hence asking Dan above) but I thought it was mapped and EWS deleted by Dan this summer. Not totally sure so will need Dan to confirm or deny that. Eigher way, A couple of new oxygen sensors and a coolant temp sensor is no bad thing to change anyway. Not overly fussed as the MOT emissions were very low and 215bhp is pretty good anyway.

The M30 was well down but I know it has a fueling problem so need to look into that.

Great day, good fun, nice to catch up with people and meet some new enthusiasts also.

I was starting to think that eigher we had overly high expectations of the cars tested today, or that dyno is a low reader as (apart from Pony) quite a few were lower than expected.

Just uploading the photos to photobucket now.

Yes I think you did now I think about it, I doubt you have an E46 MAF as they have a different connector plug.
Lambdas and temp senders rarely give problems so I would leave them alone until you have had it checked for fault codes

As for custom map, AFAIK the motronic 1.3 can't be live mapped. You need an emulator of some sort and a eprom burner.

A faff in other words.
Was thinking more along the lines of the (I think its called) WAR chip? Get the benefits of a mappable ecu without losing the things the standard motronic is great for like warm up maps etc. Think they even support MAFless, but it's been a while since I have looked at m20 stuff.

Suppose it's a question of where do you stop and also diminishing returns.

some made up number that seemed to give best answers on the test vehicles i gather. i think its a little generous but thats JIMO and why cars with mileage make quoted bhp numbers and also why you get some odd numbers coming out from time to time. but its the same for everyone on the day

if i recall it changes a % or two depending on the mode. for example "shootout_6" (NA 6 cyl) might be different to "shootout_4" (NA 4 cyl) etc etc

I'm no expert but given they seem to measure power from the rollers and don't physically have the engine on a bench they can probably measure the power at the wheels reasonably well. However, the power at the engine and the power losses from the drivetrain I am assuming they probably have to estimate.

yeah its always an estimate, even the ones that claim to measure losses. what they measure when they measure losses are coastdown losses not the drivetrain losses that get you from wheel hp to crank hp. they just fudge it with software trickery close enough so people are generally none the wiser and will happily hand over the $$$.

don't get me wrong if you do it consistently it becomes useful and its the same for everyone...you just need to know the limitations

Kos was like a bloody spy that day sent by IS from Pakistan!
Kos your 330i did superb! Didn't realise Alpina exhaust was that good.
Barry 177bhp is still really good. Above standard. Just do 1 mod at a time so you know what changes they do.
Nice to see a couple is 325i doing 165bhp given their age
That Sport with 174bhp was pretty jaw dropping with that. The Scorpion sounded really nice.

So does anyone know any decent welders?

Apparently I need a new exhaust. The v8 isn't farting well apparently.

As for the Alpina exhausts, they are pretty much the best ones out there. They put in a real effort to make them work.
