They are indeed self adhesive, but surface preparation is everything. All traces of the original glue and foam need to be completely removed.

Hi brian the bonnet is being prepared and freshly painted as it is different color should i wait a few weeks to let the paint harden and also is it worth sanding to give a key for adhesion or not thanks

I'm no expert on paint, but if it hasn't been oven baked, I'd wait a while and rough the surface up a little before fitting, as you say.
