They're both 'orrible.
Much prefer the dealer sanctioned retrofit.

To some, indigo and 4 pot clatter is 'orrible.

Even if I could have that heelpad replicated I wouldn't do it. It's well dodge.

I've never seen an OEM mat without a bound edging. Leatherette has no place in a 'pure' E30.
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

You've just been told and shown that dealers sold mats for E30s that were just so.
325i Sports are the equivalent of these mats - an afterthought lash up to fill a gap.
But a 318iS is s globally released beast, loved the world over. There's only an 'S' on two models in the range - neither were blessed / blighted with an anchor up front!
Barry - Only Mint Matzz.

So are the leather edged mats. Made by BMW sold by BMW for the E30 BMW range. The updated may bring a much nicer solution.
Most of your car was made by BMW lol.

No such car. There's a 325i with some leftover 318iS bits thrown at it if that's what you mean.Blitz wrote:What about the 325is?

You mean the 318is with the left over bits seeing as the US 325is came out it 1987.Royalratch wrote:No such car. There's a 325i with some leftover 318iS bits thrown at it if that's what you mean.Blitz wrote:What about the 325is?
Your E30 knowledge is poor.Royalratch wrote:No such car. There's a 325i with some leftover 318iS bits thrown at it if that's what you mean.Blitz wrote:What about the 325is?
SA and AUS market 325iS models are not the same as a US market 325iS.
The SA market one got E30 M3 5 stud hubs and suspension, alloy doors and an Alpina 2.7 engine AND was a motorsport homolgated car.
The AUS spec 325iS was identical to the UK spec 325i Sport but was badged 325iS.

The 318iS was just a marketing special to try and steal some sales from the hot hatch market.
And it failed its core remit.

Blitz has just posted up some period German road tests, including one particularly entertaining one showing a mighty IS being shat on everywhere by an old Cavalier, I didn't laugh, much

Resorting to the random lash ups of distant lands, yet you reside here in the same sceptic Isle as the rest of us - pathetic.
And in that Isle, the truth remains that here and now, your chariot is a 4 door saloon with 2 doors but with OEM matz.
I suppose your saloons never lost any shootouts with whatever yachts they took to the seas with?

Let's leave some space for the Matz story to finish before it goes nuclear lads.
I'd also like it on record that the serial troublemaker Barry, he of multiple bannage, is the instigator in this spat and my only wish is to see oem matz returned in all their glory to the E30 community.

If you want to see them returned to their glory the you're going about it the wrong way.
Like the ratch we all know and love/hate, you jump in feet first after a long spell away and come in with some lane misjudged attempt at recreating mats but lack the accuracy or true finesse of true OEM perfection and instead choose to go with some lame second best attempt which is not true to its roots.
Just like the galvaniser being handed is are by a chavalier!
Embarrassing.

Even a lifetime ban cannot stop me.
I am never away dude, I just don't live on here.
Regarding matz - At the risk of sounding like a broken record - it is not possible to recreate the OEM mats exactly as you;d need to source the correct carpet, create a stamp / mould for your beloved heel pad, all in at least 3 colours - making the unit cost £784 per set lol.
I'm not interested in some deviant concours mat fest - I just want to source a set that looks the part in the car.
Plus, the factory mats are horrible.
Now enough noise.

Ha!
I know the original matzzz would be hard/expensive to replicate.
I'm just yanking your non OEM chain.

Slightly confusing, but I'm today bewilderd how you can say the oem mats are horrible in favour of ones that look the same/same carpet but with cheap fake leather pvc or whatever edgingRoyalratch wrote:

As for cheap dodgy leather edging etc bla - it IS an genuine style offered for the E30 and now standard on EVERY BMW since. The reason I don't like the original original ones is sewn edging looks Halfords and the heelpad is less than slick.
It looks tight - and all the aftermarket mats out there since MotorMec sold out are crap.
These will look OEM and right - and that's that.

E46, E90 and every other BMW since the E36 does not have flake leather edging!
The have nylon edging.

And what was that about edging looking Halfords?

I've got a very nice clean set of original e24 mats at home. The binding is starting to fray so the jury is out on what I do with them.
The non OEM ones I have are not too bad quality wise but I didn't like te binding so they were re done with leather. Not sure if I could do that to the originals. But it is easily reversible
I do have a contact who does have access to a very close match to OEM colours and textures, I'll see if I can get the details.

And that edging is complete shite. The drivers one in my e61 looks like it's done 200k (cars done 91k) because the edging is all worn. It's actually like a fake suede or something.bss325i wrote:Utter bollax.Royalratch wrote:As for cheap dodgy leather edging etc bla - it IS an genuine style offered for the E30 and now standard on EVERY BMW since. The later stuff just does not compare to the quality and durability of the original E30 mats.
