I know an m10 to m52 must have been covered about 628283838 times over the years. But I can't find much on what would be needed to swap from my 1986 316 m10 carb running completely standard drivetrain.
I understand fuel tanks are different and swirl pots are required to run an injection system?.
So I was wondering exactly what is needed and why to fit a m52b28 engine into my old beast. It's my daily and I'm just looking for a more modern fuel system and a lot more power.
I currently drive 50+ miles a day all on the motorway.
Please be gentle on me a˜˜, cheers

Welcome to the Zone!
It would be a pity to convert an M10 chromie, but others on here have done it with some success. Do you have any pics of your car?

I've just completed this mod. As you have mentioned, the fuel tank needs to change as you only have a feed, and not a return. Swirl pot is not required, but if you are going to the trouble of changing the tank then would be silly not to go for a tank with a swirl pot.
Once your engine is out you are pretty much similar to any other E30. Obviously you'll need to upgrade the rear beam to disks, and ideally the front struts from 45mm to 51mm, along with 325 front and rear calipers.
