Dudes.
I'm talking to a place to make exact replicas of the mats we all crave. They have the templates already and a pretty good match for the Indigo Blue I need(as well almost all the E30 colours). They also have the correct oval fasteners the E30 used. They also do the cheap or plush carpets too.
They obviously can't do the logo.
But I've never seen an actual set of original mats up close. I would appreciate a decent picture of the mats and any close ups so I can forward on. I especially need to know what edging was used - was it cloth? Vinyl?
Did all the mats have the fasteners? Or just the drivers side? They can do an extra carpet insert but not a vinyl one - is that original?
Much appreciated. Once I get them made I'll post them up.

I was hoping to just forward them onto the makers and get the order going.
Then show you lot the results - if you like them I'm sure they'd do a great deal - probably at least 50 orders on the Zone alone.
£60 for the plush carpet version. £40 for the nylon type.
Their stock product is about 80% there but I'm trying to create a proper E30 detailed set. Just won;t have the logo or heel pad.

I'd be up for a £60 set for my cabby, please. - indigo blue would be perfect.

Only drivers mat had the 3x fasteners
Edging was nylon stiching, and reverse is coverd in stars, if real true oem fit, look, feel, black mats could be produced someone would make a fortune, but they have to be just right

Nice lads.
I prefer the leatherette edging but I guess its not 'correct'
I also don't see why its a big no no to have fasteners on the passenger side too.
Just checked the sample carpet they sent me - it has stars on the back!

Will it have the correct plastic heel pad with "made in west Germany" and the BMW roundel?

The ones you've bought are obviously produced much later by a different supplier.
Also, If you buy a new LHD carpet it doesnt come with a heel pad but the originals did.

Well the original heel pad is plastic, has a BMW roundel in the middle and made in West Germany at the bottom.

Read the bloody thread! No heel pad and no bloody roundel.
But they can do a raised section of extra carpet for the heelpad.
But the quality, colour match and locking pin type are all pretty bang on.
Still no pics...!?
Stay tuned.

I have two sets of what I think must be original mats.bss325i wrote:Original ones did.Cloggy Saint wrote:I've bought a few sets of mats from the dealer and they don't have stars on the back, a plastic heel pad or a BMW roundel
One is the ridged hard wearing set from my '88 cabriolet and one is the plush from my '90 cabriolet. Neither has a heel pad, just the same material all through.
Ben
It's very common for the plastic heel pad to have been removed, the corners can come adrift and your heel can get caught on the loose corner.
I've had/seen plenty of these floor mats in varying states for heel pad condition.
All three sets ive had in my sport have the heel pad.

Ah, sorry, I assumed that "Nope, cabrios also had the heel pad. " meant your picture was of a cabriolet.bss325i wrote:That's because its not a cabrio!BenHar wrote:I'll get some pictures of mine tomorrow.
Those seats look wrong for cabriolet?

My new Touring has these mats.
My other Touring has different ones, they are a sort of "ridged" pile mat, very hard wearing.

Ok.
The latest news seems to be that mat differ from model to model and factor installed or dealer supplied afterward.
I've ordered a set of Indigo mats with the following strict criteria.
1) The colour match must be very hood (it is, the sample is good).
2) The locking pins must be the correct style and in the correct locations (no problem they say).
3) The edging. On some models it is just heavy wound polyester and some it is a leatherette / vinyl edging. Bothe are always in the same colour as the carpet.
40 The backing is the quality rubber type with a tessellated triangle pattern - not the E30 star pattern but in the ball park.
What they cannot do.
1) Logos (obvs)
2) Vinyl heel pad - they can do an extra thick 'double up' heel pad in same carpet - which some OE matts did have.
3) The premium carpet type they use is actually better quality than the E30 Premium type but then looks different. It doesn't have a 'weave' or 'grain' to it like the E30 ones do. Its closer to the kind of stuff you see in a Range Rover or lux German saloon. I didn't see a sample of the cheaper version - which might actually look closer to the E30 cheap option.
I'll post pix when they arrive - then you can all order solo or I can arrange a group buy with some kind of deal.
