i live in South Sheffield and its connected to Manchester by the Snake Pass. a loverly bit of driving road with no traffic at night and no houses/villages or rozzers.its recently been reduced from national speed limit to 50 but effectively most of the switchbacks and cambered corners are 40 to 60 mph maximum and even the stretches are sub 80mph unless youre over 250 bhp. its a road where a well taken corner in an E30 can pass a braking 2014 Golf Gti if you know the road. i have my best running time from ladybower dam to glossop in a 325 at night, the 318 engine isnt by modern standards very fast but in my 1990 car with 130k on the clock it feels just sublime. the 325 i own has power and m sport suspension and 15 inch wheels but my revvy 318 on 14inch wheels and ancient suspension is the best fun to drive. its so sticky on the snake it comes within a minute of the more powerful 325i. its no 318is but its damn good fun!!

More and more people are becoming illuminated to the M3 matching balance and poise versus the leviathan, lazy 6-pot 'dance' albeit with smoother delivery.
Thats assuming you've paid your mooring fees for the year...

I have had a 325i and now a316i which I've chucked an M42 in. The weight of the engine makes a big difference in the tighter corners and transitions, it's much more nimble.

Ive owned a 316i, 318i, 320i, 325i, and now a 316 and ive loved them all: the main thing surely is that we all are here because we have a common love for the E30 in whatever guise surely. Im actually loving my current 316 back to basics E30...each car has its merits and lets face it each car in the E30 range is superior to so many alternatives available at the time

Yawn to you all, an M52 is the weight of a 4 pot and wipes the floor with the M20 anchor barges

Dan has a fair point there on the M52. I noticed ZERO difference in handling due to weight after removing the M40. The M52 feels light and nimble. I've also been driving the M30 this week and although a cab, the weight difference is VERY noticeable, it's like driving a 5 series in comparison, a totally, totally different car.
M52 is best of both worlds in my view. Now a 3.0 M52, that would be great fun.

A M52 is technically better, but I would prefer an M20 even though it has less power. An M20 has character which an M52 cant match. An M30 can though.

That's quite true Blitz, spares are getting pretty thin on the ground for M30 stuff these days though.

M20 is the best all rounder. Not a complete boat anchor like and M30, but has that old school character!

I was very surprised with the stated S50, S54 and N54 weights myself, some of those might be with ancillaries etc.

S54 60 odd kg more than an S50, can't see where the extra weight is comming from.
