Just received and fitted an ICV of Ebay so no idea of its history.
It is noisy with ignition on, noisier than the old one, so is this cause for concern or usual awareness ?
As the car would not idle with the replacement icv (it would run too low), I adjusted the throttle stop to attain correct tick over rpm.
Is that the correct adjustment?
Constructive input welcome.

What engine? If it is fuel injected then idle rpm is controlled by the ECU and the throttle butterfly should be fully shut. By adjusting the throttle stop you are over riding the factory set up, the car might idle ok but the original problem is still there.

Yes definitely adjusting the factory-set idle stop is only overiding the problem and could give you starting issues. The throttle body has to be virtually fully shut I believe....I may be wrong.... at which point the Throttle Position Switch (TPS) under the throttle body should "click" when the throttle is relaxed and "click" again as you slightly move the throttle position....this TPS action tells the ECU that you are at idle and the ECU can then adjust the injector timing to idle properly. :?

Thanks the input and consequently I have replaced the original icv and returned the throttle stop to where it was and it (325i) runs fine apart from the odd fit of high tick-over rpm.
So, what is involved in the set up for a NEW icv? Assuming all icv's are created equal, I would have thought there would be some tuning required.
