So basically i'm swapping out my original 318i small case diff for a medium case Z3 LSD.

I've started swapping the output flanges so my existing shafts can mate to it, but i have noticed the new diff is wider than the other one so my question is will my driveshafts work?

Thanks

You need medium case E30 output flanges.
More importantly, if this is the only mod. you are doing to the car, you will find yourself being out accelerated by mobility scooters. The ratio is numerically far too low.

There is quite a bit of discussion on this if you use the search.
Certainly some in the M5x section.

Struggling a bit with the driveshaft side of things, i can't find anything mentioned so i assume my existing ones will be ok?

your drive shaft (prop) or half shaft? both should be fine aslong as you use medium case output shafts

Only two types of drive shaft - those for ABS and those not for ABS.
ABS driveshafts can be used in a non ABS application.
Your small case diff. output shafts have built in spacers to compensate for the narrower width of the casing, compared to the medium case diff.

You only need medium case flanges if you use a z3m diff. Others are e30 sized.

That's a point! I sort of assumed your diff. came without flanges, since you asked about fitting E30 ones.
The Z3 diff. on mine came with one Z3 flange only, and I fitted a medium case E30 one in place of the missing one. They're nor identical, but are interchangeable.
