Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the S50 oil filter housing with the factory oil cooler take off fit the M50? Could make the standard cooler work or you can buy adaptors with dash fittings to have your own lines made and an aftermarket cooler mounted.

Yeah, I did a bit of research Rich,
And the s50 filter housing does fit
so I'm on the hunt for one now mate,
But once I get one, I'll be tapping the feed/return holes, and connecting some lines I get made up
Then, onto a small cooler,
I can't use the standard cooler, due to intercooler being in the way.

You can buy adapter kits mate so you shouldn't have to modify anything. If you did want to modify it I'd say keep the housing and 'manifold' standard, cut down the standard pipes but retain the fittings that go into the housing, and have dash fittings welded onto them. That's what the chap did on the E36 M3 race car I used to look after. Feel I may have explained that really badly I will see if I have any photos.

I posted the thread while looking into it, I just wanted to see what other people have done, so I could go from there

If you have the S50 parts and want to mate to a compatible oil cooler, you could always just cut the old swages off the s50 hard lines, do the same for the E30 parts, and then have them swaged back on. Not quite OEM, but not race either.

I dont have any S50 parts as of yet, I'm looking for the housing, then i'll just take it from there.Demlotcrew wrote:If you have the S50 parts and want to mate to a compatible oil cooler, you could always just cut the old swages off the s50 hard lines, do the same for the E30 parts, and then have them swaged back on. I think that pic looks just about right to get past my intercooler pipe,
then it can be routed onto the oil cooler,
(mounted to the left of the foglight, where the brake duct is? )
so yeah, i'll see if I can get the pipes with the housing, then cut them up

Right,
so i'm having trouble finding a "decently priced" S50 filter housing
is there another way around this, along the lines of a sandwich plate, that I can use on the M50 housing?
does anyone know of a decent one?
Is there any to stay away from?

I thought i had some pics on my phone, but i dont lol
no doubt i'll have to work on it soon, so i'll snap a couple and throw them up,
It basically goes the same route as Andy's there,
but the cooler sits behind the lower Tech II valence
taking the airflow from the foglight/brake duct port
