Fuel tank for touring from e36 touring?

Hello chaps

My fuel tank on e30 Touring has started leaking due to rust. I already welded it in the past and it lasted for a year. Now thinking of replacing it with a new one.

A friend recently suggested I look at e36 touring tank and see if it could be installed on my e30 touring. Anyone hear anything about this convertion?

I doubt very much an E36 tank will fit at all.
