Did somebody mention Escorts ? :)
I saw W Registration Ford Escort 1.3 Ghia yesterday.
No joke! Rarely see any Ford Escorts of that shape on the road. No idea where the model is in the model range.

Also i keep seeing this A Registration E30 323i ? 2 door chrome in Hounslow. Looks OEM possibly? Looks cool though.

There are still quite a number of E30s on the road for 1980s vehicle.
Most other manufacturers their 1980s cars are scrap with the exception of supercars etc.
E30s in the 1980s had thr Yuppie/Success thing going for it.
Sadly since then has acquired a bruv/chav image. I think this image is currently with E30s. When someone sees you driving an E30. They dont think look at you thrusting Yuppie mobile phone owning executive. They probably think you f00king peasant why have you not got a New BMW/Audi/Mercedes-Benz or at least VW Golf ?

What really gets me going these days since January 2014. E21 323i LE with LSD :-)
Thats sex on wheels!!!! Just looks so cool and as Andyboy says in his book "was a proper hero chariot heman car in its day. All oversteer"
Though he did say in his book the E30 325i Sport "was a hero chariot in its day embarassing many bigger engined cars such as 635CSi"

That will be the Mk3, the first year of the front wheel drive Escorts:

My mum had one, a 1984 XR3i, in Stratos silver. Good car to look at and drive, but boy, did the sills rust! 8O

Could have been the last of the mk2's on a W as well.

I suspect most are from Ford dealers, however, as with any old Ford, there are always plenty of traders offering all manner of parts.

Parts supply for the mk3 is pretty good, loads of places doing body panels, trim etc.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

Well, they rot like mad (worse than a lancia), some of the parts can be hard to come by, most of the owners aint willing to pay the price for some parts, most just want to turn them into S1 rst reps or rs1600i reps.

Also, well, its a mk3 NOT a mk2 (the best by far). Its just not as popular.

Ask yourself this, if you had a choice between a mint mk2 rs2000 or a mint mk3 xr3i which would you choose??

Yes clearly a Mk3 if it was the hatchback shape. A mate of mine had an October 1980 built XR3 (non injection) on the W and was the oldest XR3 i had seen.

I must have had 30 odd Mk3/4 Escorts and Orions in my yoof including 11 XR3i's and 5 RST's.

The XR3i only came as a hatchback. Do you mean the Orion Ghia/1600E or Cabriolet?

That's simple: It's the Baby M3, therefore, the ultimate driving machine ever made by BMW.

Now, enough said, move along.

Classics fords are the test of the market and also the weird exception, like many car nuts ive had a mk3 escort and a Orion Ghia i. they were literally under a hundred quid in early 2000's. the main reason non survive is because nobody realised the war of attrition against them as first cars. pass test, insure escort pop, get 1 years no claims.scrap or wreck for laugh during back lanr duelling - buy 7 year old clio/add alloys, add custom air filter get 2 years no claims. trade up to golf GTI if still living at home. 8) reach 40 get and nostaglic for old escort again where you first got your fingers in tracey from brum. As you already have a conservatory and your present missus is more interested in the biscuit tin, you over bid on a shed in between You Porn sessions. :? if people are prepared to splash 3 grand on a mundane ford that has the dynamics of an Atco mower it cant be long , my original point, til people realise you can buy a really undervalued and dynamically fun german alternative. surely the mass hysteria that gives a 1979 beige barn find Fiesta 1.1 pop 12,000 views on ebay will cast its gaze over to a E30 316 auto with 2 owners. 911 sc's the pup of the mid 70's and early 80's porsche litter , always available with MOT for 6 k ish, ive had a few as dailies , so/so model between carrera and 3.2. id need 20k to get a reasonable car now and 25k for a good one.

Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, I quite liked the Orions. Had one myself, albeit a later 1992 K-reg 1.6iLX, with the first of the Zetec 16-valve engines. It was slightly disappointing on low-end torque, but went well enough when wound up.

Orion and XR3i with a boot, my Ghia i was fun.

You've nearly had more cars then I have had women Barry 8O
Yes the Orion 1.6i Ghia had the same 1.6 injected CVH engine but had different ratios in the same B5 gearbox.

I've had 5 Orion injection Ghia's as well! Two mk3 Escort shaped and 3 Mk4 Escort shaped.

I stopped counting cars when i passed the 100 odd mark Stefan. :)

I get bored easily.

Buy/sell/swap/crash/frag etc etc.

I did go through a spate of buying cheap scrap and running it into the ground.

I've only bought/sold 5 cars this year.

Where you a cab driver in the Hood (Croydon)? Bluebirds were always the cabbys choice of ride.

My Dad had a new Orion 1.6 Ghia back in '88. F977XVG in Radiant Red. I always felt we were in the cheap seats due to lacking the prestige of the all important "i" badge! :(

Horrible, horrible, horrible car. It was always having minor faults repaired. Ridiculously heavy steering as well iirc. That was the last Ford he bought. After that he went French and bought a Peugeot 405GR which was a surprisingly lovely thing to drive.

however bad cars were, the latest Fiesta has a reverse bleeper option because "rear visibilty isnt great". now that not exactly progress!. i could reverse park my 1980 Fiesta 1.1L at 15mph and hammer on the brakes as a party trick because visibilty was amazing, huge glass area and low belt line in relation to seat height.

LOL! No, i needed a cheap run about while i was building a series 1 RS turbo cabrio and was offered it for £50.

I lasted a couple of weeks before the gearbox blew then was replaced with an XR3.

Just seen this on car and classic.

It's a nice example and I know prices are on the up, but surely 20K is asking too much
