Hi, I've got a 1989 Mtec Motorsport 325 convertible that I'm thinking about selling. I'd prefer to see it sold to a proper enthusiast via the e30 zone who will give the old girl a sympathetic new home rather than leave its future to chance on ebay!!
Can anyone give me a realistic idea of its current value? Her details are as follows:
325 Mtec Motorsport Le Special Edition (1989)
Colour: Negaro silver
Mileage: 130K
Mot: 12 months
Transmition: automatic
Full grey leather interior with M motifs
New nearside wings and door then full respray and new hood in 2005.
Recent new radiator, rear shocks.
Overall good condition inside and out. Small areas of surface rust now starting in the usual places for her age. Owned by my family for past 10 years and only done 2-3K miles each year.
How do I add photos on this forum? Doh!

Welcome! Here's how you add photos:

Motorsport cabbies are worth a bit, but a full respray and signs of rust will knock thousands off the asking price. It's also the wrong time of year to sell, so you're realistically looking at the 2-3k mark as the upper range. Could be as little as 500 quid if the rust is in the wrong place or the respray was of poor quality.

2-3k per year suggests fair weather use, if the respray was a good one there really shouldn't be much if any rust starting to appear, even after 9 - 10 years.

Are you having a laugh - 500 quid? Got any recent comparible sales to back up your advice or anything that's for sale at the level.Grrrmachine wrote:Welcome! Here's how you add photos:

My point is that it's worth little more than scrap value. A respray that's already rusting is not only price-cutting in itself, but also an indicator of bodgery in all other areas of the car. Example: it's got a new roof. Who fitted it, is it aligned properly, do the mechs work, and is it NEW new or just robbed from another scrap cabby?LondonTom wrote:Are you having a laugh - 500 quid? Without pictures it's impossible to give any decent indicator of price, and therefore it's worth scrap price until proven otherwise.

I can't understand why all the zoners want there car valued but never put up pics.
£500 is cheap but is still a good shout if it's a rust bucket, 2/3k is also a good price but so is anywhere inbetween and up to 5k.
Once you have learned how to put pics up then show us the worst bits and best bits up close.

Parts are a lot rarer now.
£500 for a Motorsport cabrio? We're not in 2004 any more!

The last time I saw a Motorsport convertible, I was pulling the LSD and engine out of it in a breakers. It was a scrappage victim, and was strictly to be crushed with no parts removed. Luckily I knew the owners so removed the bits. It was a mint, unrusty 67'000 mile car and had been basically flattened with a crane grab being repeatedly smashed down on it.
As soon as I had removed the engine (I had to use a gas axe for speed) it was dropped into the baler. Very, very sad. You should have seen the trim.

Coinicdently , the trim I sold came from a nagaro scrappage scheme breaker. The leather bits and some other easily unboltable morsels were relived of it before if left the dealer it was traded in to be squashed.
I had to replace the obviously missing bits like the door cards and consols with lesser worthless parts to make the car look "complete" before it went on its final trip.
It was a one owner fbmwsh car with less than 100k miles.

I doubt we'll ever know the true carnage of the crappage scheme. I stripped an utterly mint Lazer blue 1992 525i up at Copart - I stripped it to a bare shell, only left the glass and wiring in. You could wipe the dust off the diff and suspension with a rag, it was like a 12 month old car. Traded for a Kia.

A car will always be worth the sum of its parts - in this case much more than £500!BenHar wrote:£500

I think it's good of you to offer it to enthusiasts who would look to restore it.
I would have thought at least £1000?

No it won't because it costs a lot of time to strip the parts out to sell them.LondonTom wrote:A car will always be worth the sum of its parts - in this case much more than £500!BenHar wrote:£500

The shell is shot and not worth saving, so £500 quid will give someone the chance to strip it and make a little bit of money on it.

I stripped my last e30 in less than a day, but I guess everyone has different means available.BenHar wrote:No it won't because it costs a lot of time to strip the parts out to sell them.LondonTom wrote:A car will always be worth the sum of its parts - in this case much more than £500!BenHar wrote:£500

I'll happily have a wager with you that if this car was put on eBay it would make more than double your 500 quid estimate.
