Ive just start turning my 318is into a track day car, i thought i'd start at the back and work my way forward.
So ive been taking everything off to get the rear beam out to change the bush, everything is loose and removed but the thing is stuck solid.
Ive tried hitting with a hammer etc but nothing.
I think its stuck where the beam bush's join the car, anyone got any ideas??

you need to smack from the top (inside the car) with a long screwdriver or punch. the insert in the bush gets stuck to the car. mine came out and left the inserts so i had to heat them and they came out. good luck

The aluminium bush inserts weld themselves to the car body. You may need to use brute force in the beam until they snap off and then drill out what's left.
Coat the new aluminium inserts in copper grease when you put the beam back in.

Generally the alloy bit of the top of the bush gets stuck in the chassis and you need to die grind it out after you have smashed the fooker out!
Edit: Beat me to it!

forgot to mention i used a massive tap (not sure what size) from the underside, left the tap in so i had some thing to hit against.

So when smacking from above (in the car) is the splined bit where the head of the bolt sits part of the bush or the car? i.e. should i be smacking this

no that is the car hence why i added about a tab from the underside, u can try to move it side to side as mentioned above but that didn't work for me.

Have you still got the diff fitted? If so, this will cause the beam to pivot around the bushes, and it won't drop down smoothly. It's a ballache at the best of times though.

Mines off too, whacked it from underneath sideways with a sledge and a bar and it eventually went.
Diff was off but trailing arms were on causing it to pivot slightly, done now though
