Hi guys,

I've been enjoying the reliability of the E30 since I bought it in may, only having to replace the viscous fan coupling (which to someone who owns old minis, this made a pleasant surprise!)

But, onto the next job, there seems to be a metallic rattle coming from the front of the car, I haven't had a prober look and it only does it while engine braking around 2k and 3k rpm, so it's harder to find while poking my head under.

I've noticed that the manifold heatshield is not really attached any more, and it probably should be to protect HT leads and such. I'm looking at replacing it in the near future (or if it falls of before) :O Could this be the source of my rattle? or is it something else I have to find?

But this leads to other problems oh how do you get it off, as it goes behind the manifold, does that need to come off to do the job? and where on earth can i find a replacement, I've looked online, but not having much luck! could anyone give me a pointer for this? :)

It's a 1990 318i if that helps

Thank you very much, I can't even tell you how long i've searched on their site and not found what I wanted... but i guess I was looking for a different name!

tell me about it... having only had old minis (pretty much) it's engine out to do anything, else it's lots of yelling and and grazed hands 8O

now... what's the chances of one of the manifold studs snapping like every other car i've done this on

That's pretty good advice (apart from when I forget and touch it) and i'll use plenty of rust penetrator!
