Think I'm gonna need all the luck I can get as it's started piddling it down with rain now :(

There are indeed two 2WD Cossie intercoolers, niiiiiice and inconspicuous

To be honest, I think that deciding on the positions for the turbos was the most difficult bit. Everything just kinda fell into place after that.

Couldn't believe my luck when the valance and bumper went back on properly. Was even more chuffed when that plastic undertray went on without and mods!

Andy, I'll go out at some point over the next couple of days and set up the TBs with the gizmo, sorry it's taken so long!

How come you're going for the twin throttle setup now though?!

Don't worry about the gizmo mate, no rush :)

I chose the twin TB set up because it's a lot simpler and i think the M5 TB's are over kill for my engine.

To compare the sizes of the TB's i have worked out the total surface area in mm2 of the following TB set ups.

M30 = 3318
2 x 60mm = 5654
M5 TB's = 9542 (or nearly three times bigger than the stock M30 TB !)

I've got a spare manifold on it's way and the TB is on it's way from the US, it should be in this country by now.

When is your MOT booked for ?

Think if you're using the twin setup to allow air into the common plenum for all the cylinders to feed from, then the total area is what you want.

On the other hand though, with the one throttle per cylinder, each one only has that area to draw from, so each cylinder would have 1590 sq mm with your TBs I guess. Blimey, 45mm throttles!

Beginning to wonder if the 40mm Dia I made mine might be a bit overkill. Gives an area of 1256 sq mm per cylinder.

Yours will be fine because they are force fed ! 8)

Yep, 45mm throttles is going to be over kill on my N/A two valve per cylinder engine unless i can get it to breath more with a very lumpy cam and build an expensive high compression bottom end.

But i don't want to go that route because i won't be able to use a turbo later down the road.

This mod will perk my engine up nicely(for now) touch wood !

Quick update from me :D

Having swapped heads and had all kinds of issues with the water works, all is well in my garage!!

Still lots of little jobs to do, def more tuning, sparks etc, but it's not leaking from the missing studs anymore and sounds much much better.

Currently @ 9psi, peaking at 10.4 and no pinking at all, which is nice....

This weeks quest is to find a suitable HT lead cove/brace to keep them outta trouble as they sit very near the turbo and downpipes....scared I'll melt them one of these days :D

Alex, YOU ARE DA MAN!!! I bow down to your excellence, makes mine look like we designed on the back of a fag packet :D

260bhp my ASS!!! If William Hill would give me odds I'd Ԛ£1k on in making more than 300 @ less than 9psi.....but time will tell :D

And HAPPY NEW YEAR TO Y'ALL TOO!!!!

So you're almost ready for the road again then Fozzy? :)

 you should see mine first hand, it's Heath Robinson gone mad!

I'd be so chuffed if it does make more than 260bhp, but like you say, time will tell!

Problem is that my insurance would go up if it were to be more powerful :(

That's quite a respectable amount of boost you're running! Any ideas on how much further you're gonna go with it?

Think I might be a bit hampered by the slghtly higher compression engine though, so probably the 7 or 8psi would be the limit.

Yes, used her for work last week, no issues so far.
Turbo-Brown wrote: Problem is that my insurance would go up if it were to be more powerful :(
I had to declare my estimated power figures too my insurers too, said 250bhp, but have to declare more if I get the power confirmed, but 250 seems more than enough for now. :D
Turbo-Brown wrote: That's quite a respectable amount of boost you're running! Any ideas on how much further you're gonna go with it?
From what I've been told in the last few days, my fueling is still way out and it's hampering boost levels, so just setting mine to run on AFR targets at the mo, should sort it all out :D
I've had 0.75bar shown on my boost gauge, it has a memory feature so can see max and also record a few mins of driving too, pretty handy but I've dropped some boost of until the new head beds in a bit more and I sort a few of the little bits like HT leads etc.:D

I've also identified my turbo, came of a sr20det I think, nissan 2ltr lump, a guy who used to work at zoom has one for sale, seems I may have a bigger hot side, but inlet housing was identical. 1 bar limit if it's not got the metal upgrades, but that should do for now.

I do plan on getting my old head refurbed, welded and as much other work as I can afford, seems to be the cheapest way to ensuring I can run a bar without a big bang!!

Ooh they're T28 turbos aren't they?

Does yours have ceramic exhaust and inlet turbines?

Should be booking Brown's MOT tomorrow for saturday. Gotta sort out the washer thing though as that's packed up. Other than that though, it's ready for a nice big fail sheet! :D

Just can't wait to get it out on the road, even if it is just to the MOT centre!

Update from me :D

I've had quite a interesting week all round, with driving to work (44m a day) and my work mate being a huge help datalogging and monitering as I've been driving, I've managed to put away almost 8hrs of data and am now on my 5th WB tuned map.

I had noticed with my setup that for some reason I was getting almost supercharger like performance, as in I would get a linear increase in boost with revs. There was a surge at 3k so I thought all was well and carried on. Then the boost started spiking at 8psi+ and again I wasn't really sure if that was right.
So I called a few people, had a word with the zone turbomeister and decided to fit a armval bleed valve that I had purchased some months ago.
I'd never fitted this before as the pipework for it and the actuator were such different diameters, but with a little brutal force it went on.
Didn't actually drive the car till the monday morning and after burning in the new map, I picked up my mate and pulled up at the local traffic lights which lead onto the dual carriageway to work.
Takes no guessing from you guys what I did next and I SHIT MY PANTS!!!
Boost gauge RAMMED it's way to 10psi, revs shot off the scale, car launched sideways and I was flying!!! Both of us were speechless, like WTF? We gave it more beans on the way to work and having not really set it up I adjusted the actuator down to as little as poss and the armval to about 80%, having then checked the armval site I worked out I had dialled in 17psi for the way home  . Made it home without too much boost and reset back to 9psi for the time being.

I thought I had a fast car, but now, well, it's actually pretty scary, full boost at 2.5k with only 50% throttle according to the datalog, so you work it out, I'm really trying hard to keep it on the road now, still not used to the early smack in the head everytime. The mapping has shown all the right signs since the bleed valve was fitted and the pickup has now been given the fuel it needs, so it's getting faster again

I really have been a very happy man this week, misses hates me, but the car is nearly done....

The more we use the MS software the more powerful the utilities seem

Well done Mark ! just watch those boost spikes m8 15 psi is the break point on the stock bottom end

keep meaning to say, my MS shows AFR not voltage in the target tables, we must compare settings.ini to seee what I changed on mine(cant remember)

hopefully off to see Alex tomoz, time to get his fuelling sorted

Andy,

I've not logged more than 5.7k revs yet but I'd say at 5k I peak, the power is bang 9psi from 2.5k to 5K. My datalogs and map show I start to dip in fuel after 4k, so maybe 4k is the peak output then holds and drop slowley till redline. I only have a small turbo so no real lag as such but at 2k it builds and it's a full chat by 2.5k.

I'm looking forward to seeing what it'll hit 60 in now, the instant grunt is bang on where you want it for pulling away and off the lights

I just need a lsd, 285 wide tires and launch control :jester:

Have you still not got an LSD ?

No wonder you are struggling to put the power down mate ! 8)

Are you using a 3.73 dif and non-sport box ?

How do you find the gearing now you are getting used to the boost ?

If you can afford it get some Goodyears on the back as well.

Grrr! All this talk of power and boost is making me jellous!

Of course this has nothing to do with jelly, but I wish mine was done NOW!

Minor and very crap development for tonight: After wondering where I can quickly get some Lambda bosses, it suddenly occurred to me that I have the manifolds from an E36 M3 Evo sitting outside (I've cut the collectors off already so they're dead before anyone asks :) ) Anyway, a quick check reveals that they're M18x1.5 so I'll nick them!

Think saturday's gonna be busy!

Got the MOT before 8am, if it passes I need to tax it.

If I get these two things done, I need to get some M18 bolts to plug the holes, then come back and sort out the wiper problems, then take the down pipes off and weld the bosses on.

Phew!

Keep up the good work Fozzy! :D

Another update! have found the problem!
Turns out i was worried about the design of the second head gasket with good reason.
When i had the drilling of oilways incident. the gasket i replaced the original one with looked a bit cheep to me!
When i say cheep the little bits of metal inbetween the bores didnt quite meet upto the combustion seals.
Image

And im guessing that when i loaded up a better ignition map the increased pressure was enough to push throu
Image

So have this weekend been removing the head cleaning it all up to be replaced with a decent gasket. Then it got dark so hopefully get it back together tomorow.

 That's a releif!

Where was that gasket from then? Will have to avoid them! ( should learn to read!)

When I saw you'd had problems with things popping, I went and knocked 4degrees out of most of the map, can't beat a good ol' knee jerk reaction can ya!

Got the gasket from euro car parts!!
Funny thing with parts from them one day they will be oem quality the next a load of crap!
Both gaskets came from them on diferent days! when i got the second one it was all they had, i got them to check the head set they had in stock to see if that was any better but it was the same :(
The good one was a goetz? or something like that.
Dont even remember the brand of the other one. kamakazi or somthing like that.

Thing to remember is if it looks shite it prob is!

Think she said it needed to be serial number 417xx or something like that for it to be upgradable.
