:DAs you all know i bought a Motorsport cab towards the end of last year from 1 of the channel islands,it was paid for but i only collected yesterday[friday]
It was put on the boat thursday night and got into portsmouth friday morning.
I had a day of work and went down by train, paid the tax on the car and hit the road at 20.30 got back to Manchester for 00.30.
I have only had pictures of the car to go on and his word, and i am over the moon with her she drove so well never missed a beat and anybody who says autos are Sh1t they dont know what they are talking about.
When i collected the car there was a white powder on the inside of the plastic window turns out that it got ripped and he had to replace it with a new 1 at a cost of Ԛ£300 so its like looking through glass now plus the hood is like new.

The car drives well and there is no rust and i love the bubble leather with the mtec colours woven in.
Its got a full stainless exhaust and a kn air filter which i am not to sure about should i leave it in or replace with orginal you can see it in the pics.
Would you leave the rear spoiler or take it off.

Does the K N filter do anything or is it a waste of time?

Looks luuurvely :D

I'd definately take that K&N off, they sound nice but ain't gonna make any power (probably lose power actually, due to all the hot air they're sucking up!).

Spoiler's entirely your call I'm afraid though! If you find a bootlid the right colour without a spoiler, its really easy to change (that's what I've done with my cab) But I wouldn't go to the hassle of having holes welded up & painted etc...

looking good m8! shes a beauty :D

As for the spoiler its hard to say, when the roofs up or a hardtop on the spoiler looks great. but when in cruising for your next jump mode they look better without any spoiler. Just my opinion.

Looks nice m8... in ref to yer K&N...

Get yerself some Ally/thin steel and make yerself a heatshield... it isnt hard and it cost pennys..

You gota keep that sound when you put yer foot down... your lose that if you go back to yer standard Box

pic of mine, not much help but you get the idea:

This goes under too,the only open spot ive got is towards the front and ive got an air intake from my grill right into that area,so hopefully when im moving forard the only air the Cone gets in outside ambient air

well done mate, looks good. i would take off the k&n as its more than likely losing power or make an heatshield for it.

oh and you definately need rear headrests. i at first thought it looked better without but after getting some on gotta say they look the danglies.

Yeah thanks guys i am really happy with her and i really like the auto box its so smooth effortless cruzing.
What is it with these filters i thought they where supposed to be a good upgrade,as for power she pulled like a train on the way home.
I guy i bought the car from sent the orginal air box over in the boot so i could change over if i wanted too.
Why would this mod have been done in the first place what do you gain.
I have a full stainless steel exhaust would that be classed as a freeflow.

TBH it depends on the weather, speed etc etc, there are alot of factors in wether your Cone is producing more HP or not... dont take the ''your losing HP'' remarks as gospal

the only way you would know for sure is to take it a rolling road and do a couple of runs with and with stock...but your not gunna go that are yer winkeye ..

One thing for certain is you get the sucking air noice when you put yer foot down and that just adds to the lovely tones of the 6pot IMO..

Its made cuz in general these will give you a HP gain but also will drink more fuel though be it not alot in both cases but it is there! .. K&N dont take into account how hot these engines get when running outher wise the fookers would of made a heatshield for an E30  .. and that goes with all the cone makers..

So unless you get yerself a Viper Induction where the Cone is incased and is only linked to the outside worls through a hose running to the grill of yer car, your have to MAKE a heatshiled..

Ive seen another pic somewhere.. cant remember now but basically the e30 owner had a cone like yours and had made a tunnel/cover that literally could slide over the cone to the grill hence stopping any engine heat entering the cone..

2 things you gota do if you want to keep it:

make sure you have enougn air-flow to the filter, there should be a pipe/tube running from the front of the car be it the grill or around the wheel arch area which is giving you a nice flow of outside air when your moving AND you HAVE to stop engine heat from entering the Cone as much as poss..

Seems easier to change back to the stock filter agreed... but depends on how much yer like the grunt! :)

I did notice that she was drinking fuel would go as far as to say more so then my 6 at the moment must by down to the cone filter like you say.
I liked the car from the pics that the owner sent me so i went on gut instinct.
The only think was getting it over and driveing it home.
I was lucky really as i got chatting to a wagon driver while the car was being cleared and he said i could follow him and he would get me to the A34 as its a bit tricky round there.
Then i made my way to the m40 and then it was plain sailing really to get home passed gaydon so i knew where i was from there.
It was a nice drive and the cab made it even better  .
Its just the hood now with the new plastic window its kind of stiff and the horse shoe will not push it all the way down to shut if that makes sence.

Cheers

Be careful when putting the hood down in this weather, when the platic screen is cold/frozen it can split.

I had half hour spare today so ive put my Original filter back on cuz this thread has made me curious,im like you and dont know any different as it was there when i bought it..

Filter is still there, doenst look to bad if all goes well il buy a K&N panel filter for it but Its the Noise il miss!

Ive found a site in the states that actuall makes e30 cone heatshields made to measure so there superb quality and cut out all angles of the engine bay apart from the front air intake...

trouble is there approx Ԛ£120 :S

BTW, is anyone using a K&N flat panel filter and have noticed any difference??

Mine came with the car so like you i dont really know the pros and cons regarding the setup.
I think it is causeing her to drink more gas then what she should so i will be takeing it off at some stage, but it does give the car a nice groweling sound which i think i will also miss.

Nice Motor, i agree with ziggy find a rear boot without a spolier then you can swap whenever the mood suits you.

One thing nicer than a K&N induction sound is air being sucked through a K&N via a turbo

But in all honesty i would put the standard airbox back on there for the sake of originality, its a bit less boy ricer ish and will keep the standard classic look of the motorsport cab.

Nice buy :D

yeah nice one mate, keep the boot spoiler in my opinion, look really nice goes with the whole kit of the car. As for the K&N I've heard open cone filters aren't good for the engine and you will lose a bit of power through all the heat in the engine. I've kept mine standard lot of people have too.

Ryan, glad you made the right choice and are happy with your decision. Looks good mate.

I'd say dump the K&N and replace with standard airbox.

I had a K & N on my 320i cab but the plastic mounting bracket shattered from the engine heat. K & N refused to help so I replaced it with a pipercross job. All fixtures and fittings are machined aluminium. Seems far more professional!

I love the low growly noise. Before I realised it was broken, I was driving around with no filter, when I fitted the piper, I could definately feel the difference!

Well interested in getting a heat shield sorted, reckon that would make a big difference.

The spoiler is definately down to opinion. And the angle you look at it from.

Can anyone tell me any more about rear headrests for cabs?

you just need the brackets which are available from BMW, and then normal headrests. you gotta pierce the top of your seats for where the headrest bars will go threw and job done. piece of piss

Hey dude, love the car. well done great buy. I like the boot spoiler :) I think its better if you change back to the standard box and fit a K&N or BMC pan filter. If you miss the noise you can always drill a few holes under the plastic filter box and it would give you a bit of noise. (picked that trick up from a Porsche forum).
PS that Avatar is just plain HUGE!!!! Cant you make her smaller please
EDIT: OK ITS SMALL AGAIN :) :)

I have had a smile on my face all day just thinking about the car everthing about her makes me so happy :D .
What do you guys think about dropping her of at a BMW main dealer to sort my hood issue its just the horse shoe that not clicking in to place maybe not strong enough with the new window fitted.
Do you think they are still up to the job messing with e30 hoods as i dont want to do it myself for fear of doing damage.
I cant think of anywhere that i could trust to do a proper job with out screwing up :D

I'm glad it worked out though and you're happy. Lovely looking car. I'd keep the spoiler.
