Is this a common problem.. Original BBS caps used to rattle a lot, and then lost two on the motorway. Probably due to them not being removed correctly by mechanics taking the wheels off.

Brought a second hand set, low and behold these rattle too!!

Have I just been unlucky or do used BBS caps end up like this after a while?

Thinking to bite the bullet and buy a new set if so.

You could use a bead of silicone sealant to secure them.

Would cause issues when the wheels come off though right?

Not if you let the bead dry on the hubcaps prior to fitting them - it will just squash and form a seal, similar to that used on tail-lights, etc.

Mine rattle more than Santa's slay. It's because the caps are made of 5 pieces which are not separately available except for the emblem.

You got the aluminium bit, the spring loaded centre nut with emblem and the black bit that clicks on the back of the aluminium bit.

It's this black plastic thing that locks the plastic lips on the centre nut which in turn locks the cap on the wheel. They get old and break off so you can keep turning the nut but it won't lock the cap in place.

A good used set may work if NOT broken or starting to but new ones are really the only way and there ridiculously expensive!
