I was crawling under my car and found this. ImageThis is the PWS pipe from the rack to the reservoir. I don't think this pipe is the correct type and the clamps look all a bit dodgy.
Any suggestions what the correct connection should be? I have spare lengths of power steering hose, but are these jubilee style clamps ok. And why two?

E36 rack or an engine swap?

One of the lines is only a low pressure return line.

It is the original m20 motor and an e30 rack. The previous owner did have a few odd bodges. I am wondering if this is another.
Is the pipe from the rack to the resivior the low pressure return hose? If so does it mean I can get away with a new length of hose and two new jubilees?

Rack to reservoir and reservoir to pump are both very low pressure lines, and although no jubilee clips were used by BMW, they are acceptable for this use on these lines. The connections of the hoses to the reservoir are made by crimped hose clamps on E30s, and are a common source of leaks. The standard cure is to cut off the clamps and fit good quality jubilee clips.

Thanks Brian. I am off to the motor factor to buy some decent jubilees. I have some spare pws pipe.
