Whilst giving the new purchase a good overall check I found this staining on the plastic in the passenger footwell. Would this indicate a previous/current heater matrix leak? or something else.

Looks like it could be a leak, if it is then its either the O rings for the valve or the matrix it self.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

How can I tell if it's been done already and just left staining or if it's still leaking? Only got the car on the weekend, previous owner before the guy I got it off of was on here GC318.

Coolant was low, would it leak at all times or only with heater on hot? any how to's on the above mentioned valve fix?
Currently have all the seats out for a deep clean, so plenty of space to work in. May as well do it before they go back in.
Also there's a small crack in the dash so if that has to come out may as well replace that now too if I can find one.

You can see the valve if you first take off the inspection panel above the glove box, then the one to the right, or, since the car is partly stripped remove the rear centre console, followed by the front console, and you'll be able to get at the relevant parts, as well as clean the carpet properly, and recover the glove box torch that is probably under there.

The cases are glued together, but the glued joint can be carefully prised apart, the batteries replaced and a LED upgrade performed if you so desire.trojen wrote:Ha this made my day when i found mine, thought i was a lucky one. Sorry, haven't done one lately, or have an old one to hand, but they came from CPC-Farnel the last time I rebuilt a batch. Measure up the old ones and look through their catalogue.

If anyone does follow this guide for replacing batteries, note: the batteries suggested are too thick to fit. The batteries which do fit are Varta V250H, (these are also the original ones in my torch), follow link to CPC Farnell, (thanks Brian) £2.22 each.minesapint wrote:Found this.......... http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e32/Torch/Index.htmBrianmoooore wrote:Sorry, haven't done one lately, or have an old one to hand, but they came from CPC-Farnel the last time I rebuilt a batch. Back on topic, found the culprit

Read the guide, Don't think I'll mess around trying to fix it think I'll just fit a new one. That is unless I find out they're stupid money?
Also, I have the torch. It was in its place in the glove box but obviously not working. I'll have a go at the fix one day. Thanks for the links.

Don't forget to check that your coolant pressure cap has been replaced under the safety recall.

Most of the replacement caps have a yellow disc at the bottom. A BMW dealer can tell you if a replacement has been issued for your car from the VIN (and change it if it hasn't), but of course, the replacement might not still be on the car.
Only applies to 1.4 bar caps, BTW, so excludes the iS.

Part # is 64 11 1 386 706 for non aircon cars, and the last price I have is around £100, but there have been serious price rises lately. Plenty of good second hand ones around.
