Warm start ain't great ?

My 316i when it's cold one turn of the key and it fires up but if you been driving it a while and you go to start it it takes ages ?

Probably an injector or two leaking fuel into the inlet manifold. Check by monitoring the fuel pressure after the engine is switched off, or, if the injectors are more than 50,000 miles old, whip them out and invest £46 into getting them rebuilt anyway. (See traders' forum.)

Just out of intrest there are to bolts on top on the Inlet manifold I think it's called and one of them has silicon all round it ? Could that be a problem ?

Shouldn't be any silicon anywhere, but I doubt if it's relevant to your problem. It does indicate, however, that your car has received attention from a bodger, which is never good news!
This diagram gives you an idea of how to remove the upper section of the inlet manifold, so that you can get at the injectors. Give the short lengths of rubber fuel hose that live in there a good inspection as well.
