Hello there,

My newly-acquired E30 didn't make it through the Max Power era without war wounds so I've spent the day ripping out aftermarket audio - & came across the below part.

Question is - what is it & what does the currently unconnected plug do?

If box is unplugged car turns over but doesn't start - plugged in it runs fine.... Immobiliser perhaps?

Answers on a postcard....

Quick 10 points earned there, Sweep.

Follow up question - where does the loose connector plug into? Can't see anywhere on this box - only room for green plug.

Cheers for the help

Yep, That's the relay module for the OBC.

If you set a code in the OBC code mode then it will immobilize the car.

Probably a good idea to check out how to remove it as they are a known source of non starting even when the right code is put in.

Anyone any thoughts on how to 'lose' the code function on the OBC so I can chuck this box in the bin before it causes me problems....?

Put the original 'link plug' back into the immobiliser socket above the glove box.
