Be interesting to see if e30s go the same, M30 conversions for example could command a premuim over a standard M20. It's like this in the escort scene so why not with old BMs??

We shall see......
That's not quite right, however a 'modified' mk1 or 2 might be running an engine such as a millington diamond (Pony just google it) opposed to say a two a penny m52 (not that I'm knocking them as that is probably what I'll drop into my e30 eventually) in a 'modified' e30.

I could sell my bog standard 20,000 mile mk2 and pick up one running a YB for similar money...with the same amount of doors too

It's definitely not right! Again, unmolested mint originals are what command the higher prices with old escorts, mk 1, 2, 3 and 4.

The FACT is that old Escorts are rather horrible nasty turds and with the exception of the handful of 'better' variants, are really nasty and decrepit to drive. If you want to use one, you don't really have much choice but to modify it and attempt to make it a more usable car.

All E30s (with the exception of 316 carb turds!) are pleasant usable cars if in good original condition. I would have no reservations about embarking on a 500 mile trek in a 316i. Faced with the same Journey in most Escorts would have me checking out train ticket prices :)

I drove to Plymouth and back in my mk2. Once with no heating in December, my wife was in a sleeping bag , it was freezing. Never again did that
