They've jumped dramatically in the last 18 months. When I wrote the wiki's "What's it worth guide" I priced a tip-top sport at about 5k, which was reasonable. These days even a hound is over the 3k mark, and good ones hit five figures.

The trouble, as ever, is that the cheap ones aren't really Sports anyway; just 325's with a bodykit lashed on.

I agree with you but im glad i own two its really a sellers market at the moment not a buyers market but saying that i would think a genuime sport your moneys allways safe in regardless what you for it as long as you keep if for another 18months were will they be in prices 6k mark god knows :D .

When I first started looking for an E30 in around 2007 sports (tech II) seemed to be around £3.5K and to be honest they might have been the cheaper ones as I didn't know much at the time.

2006/2007
A lot of Sports were £2.5-4k
WLN Automotive were £5-6.5k
Tech2s did command a premium over Tech1s maybe by £1k for like for like

You can still get a bargain, just need to persevere, keep looking and make offers, also be prepared to travel.

A tech1 project sold in July for £1k exactly. It was complete but need ed restoration

It can be done still.

Yes and a £2.5k sport will need a £10-15k resto and you'll have that, a restored turd.

Best off buying a nice one for £10k and save the agro.

Very true, but many people don't have £10k to spend on a classic car and want something that they can do up over time.

I wish I knew how much money e30s required and got a pre purchase inspection before buying mine
Most e30s left are highly molested / abused / bruvved / councilled and not maintained with proper OEM parts

Besides whether it is restored or original will be irrelevant when they truly reach classic status, then restored cars will be in far better condition and worth more, obviously.

Might as well save up then, its not like you would be getting use of a restoration project while its being restored.

Saying that, nice ones are thin on the ground.

Errr, no.

You can't restore originally.

The highest value classics are original unrestored cars obviously in good low milage condition.

You wouldn't buy a Ferrari if you couldn't afford the running costs same with e30
Yeah you can save money doing stuff yourself if you know how
But parts plus so many things need doing at this age
Obviously u can save money with cheap pattern parts or SH parts etc

I often wonder why people sometimes moan about E30's being 3k or something. Before I got an E30 paying 10k for a car was common place, and is for most people.. so spending 3-4k on a half decent E30 is a bargain.. especially when you see what else you can get for that money.. a shitty 56 plate Nissan Micra perhaps.

I guess you lot have seen these cars going for peanuts so the price hike is alot.. for me though, 3k for an E30 is a bargain :) ....

it's just the extra 15k you have to spend in parts over the next couple of years that piss me off

Yawn, of course mint low milage non restored original panel cars will always command top money , but sports like that are few and far between and if ever come up for sale, let alone what price they would be and out of the range of most buyers, in 2 years even let alone 5, 99.9 of all sports ever for sale would have had resto work and nice ones will command strong money

For instance - I have no idea when/who, but who or when was the last zoner to purchase a mint low milage original sport ???

This

Also to be original unrestored low owner low mileage
Does this mean should have original paint so never been painted ? Does this mean interior is the original one with the vehicle ? I guess depends on the definition

Gaydon there was Sport Tech2 Diamond Black, 70k mileage, cloth interior
Wasn't fully loaded but hey

Even right now, let alone in the future- IF you wanted a mint low milage/owner imaculate in restored sport, it wouldn't be easy or quick to find, and would comment a hell of a wack

Just nice condition original/standard ones of any milage or had resto work, are not often come across these days, most you see posted on here and facebook by owners, seem to be molested and have alpina reps and all sorts of mods and engine conversions

Then there's the breaker/traders buying and breaking up the needing resto ones or breaking ones that shouldn't really be broke , coz of parts prices, taking more off the roads for good

In 3 years time who knows how it will be, if you have a nice sport of any condition- look after it and keep it nice

The old escort is an interesting scene, the more modified they are the more in demand and higher they are priced.

Be interesting to see if e30s go the same, M30 conversions for example could command a premuim over a standard M20. It's like this in the escort scene so why not with old BMs??

We shall see......

S54, yes that would be good to be completely honest i'm not a good enough driver to control that amount of power.

I'm much happier revving the pants off an m20 with a few tweaks. Enjoying a good trash knowing i wont kill myself and if i kill the engine it's only £250 and a weekends work for a new one.

Exactly who knows, look at every other 80s "sports" car, or them old escorts etc most of which have had every single panel replaced and multiple restos and work over the years, and still fetch mega money, once the sheds are gone and the mint like milage ones are strictly in hands of collectors never driven and dream money, then restored or needing resto are only ones for sale

No one knows how it will pan out, its only the fact e30 were produced for many years and BMW build quality making them last longer , has maybe kept prices behind a little, with the increasing drifting scene and parts prices/breaking now days more and more will dissapear in comming years
