Is there any easy way to determine whether the brake warning light is flickering due to an electrical short or pad wear? The car was successfully MOT'd 300 miles ago with no issues regarding wear.. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Pad wear isn't checked for MOT.
There's a pad wear sensor front left and another rear right if you have rear discs. No easy way of checking them other than plugging in a new sensor to the hub sockets.
If the light's flickering more in time with bumps in the road rather than braking, then it's probably a common instrument cluster fault.
Do a forum search for my username and "220 ohm resistor".

Put the front on axle stands and check the sensor cable for wear. My light also had your problem and as I turned the steering on my car the wheel was rubbing the sensor cable gradually wearing it right through. Take the wheel off, it's easier to see. stephen
