I'm doing a resto on my touring and I'm relocating the battery to the boot pocket while I'm at it. I have all the parts but I'm unsure on how to route the cable going into the boot.
I know on the saloons it goes through the rear bulkhead but theere isn''t one in the touring, in it's place there's a boxsection just behind the seat. I was told it passes through this but there isn't a hole on the other sade for it to pass out of.

If you use an E36 cable its a bit longer, im sure it would be long enough to go over the arch

Im using a cabke from a 324diesel touring which had the battery in the boot.
It might be long enough to do as you say (its slightly longer than a saloon cable) I just thought id try and find out if its meant to go a certain way.

Anyone? Just mock fitted a boot panel trim with the cable running along the floor and the trim panel doesnt really fit, anyone know how it needs to be routed?
It fits in through the hole by the fuel pipe and then out the side but its still tight with the boot panel. And im not sure if theres enough length to bring it up over the top mounts.

does it not run like on a saloon and run under the fuel tank breather pipe and through that hole next to it and the box section that runs between the rear arches.
Looks like it to me, if i was clever i'd put an arrow on your picture. It would be long enough then, plus you'll see where that bracket bolts the cable down to the shell

I thought that to but theres no holebon the other side for it to pass through. It might be long enough tobpass through it and then up and out through the hole above, need to just clip it in right so I know how much length i have to play with. Its slightly longer than a saloon one btw if anyone was wondering.

Make a hole, your car never came with the battery in the boot is my guess. But the more i think of it the more thats where it would have gone from factory. BMW are creatures of habit
You cant really see the hole in your picture as the loom is hiding it somewhat.

I sent a pm to daf and he remembers it running along the floor and that the boot panel trim was different. I have the hatch door from a ix which is raised at tje bottom to accomodate the battery. But i dont have the fixed part of the trim which going by realoem is the same for all touring models.
Ill have another better look at the weekend and see again how bad it fits and i might trim it a little if i have to. Ill have a look at making a hole to in the box section so ot can come out the other side, the hole thats there is big enough for the cable to pass through.

The large black plastic trim piece (#6 on the diagrams) is different between the 324d and other tourings.
