I have an '89 325i Touring which has covered 185k.

It developed an problem last week where the engine seemed to splutter and loose power and felt like it was about to stall. I have since had the distributor, HT leads, spark plugs and rotor arm replaced, had a compression check (which came out fine) and checked for air leaks, which there were none.

Although now the car runs much better it still seems to have this splutter and loss of power intermittently which is really annoying. The garage that fixed it said it may need to run for a few days to clear any left over gunk that may have built up. Cylinder 6 spark plug, they tell me, seems to get wet which may or may not have any bearing.

If it doesn't clear by early next week I'll be taking it back to the garage. I'd rather be able to give them a clue as to what to look at next than them spending hours trying to diagnose at my expense so any help would be appreciated.

Would it be a case of new/refurbed injectors possibly?

Cheers

Can't really tell as it seems to be when accelerating as opposed to when idling.

No idea to be honest. Not in my ownership (2.5 years) and haven't seen any paperwork to show this has been done previously.

If it is case of injectors being refurbed how long would this job take for a garage to complete?

it seem like what happened to me yesterday, I got a set of injector and cleaned and tested it in the service center all is OK.

install into my m40 engine last week, it feel OK, but 2 days ago I feel power slightly loss and yesterday I feel the engine is like no power feel that 1 cyl has no power and engine tremor.

check all spark plugs and number 2 has very dark and thick carbon deposit.

and then I pull the injectors out from the engine, try to start it and found that injector number 2 is clogged/dead? no fuel

and injector 3 is very small fuel

this cause the engine had power loss.

I take out all injectors in the car that I feel is not good and keep it in the box.

I wonder because it is a good injectors that just coming from cleaned and tested.

I try to use other set of injectors then I cleaned it into my ultrasonic cleaner with some injector cleaner fluid for about 1 hour.

I install to my engine and the engine feel has got all the power come back and feel more power than before.

hope this help
