Just bought my first E30, a 325i Sport, the guy before me had it 10 years in a garage and never had it out in the rain,

How bad is rain on a car of this age lol, seems a sin to take it out as its in really good condition,

Whats your views on it? would you or wouldnt you?

Ps, serious question haha

Why do you ask? Rust? RWD of death?

If it's the latter, lots of diesel lying around.... apparently.

If you want to keep your car as a cherished garage queen, you might want to consider not driving it in the rain; and never driving it when the roads have been gritted. If, however, you wish to use it as a practical form of traffic, drive in all weathers. That's what I do :)

Due to the rust/rot, its only for the summer months so no driver when the roads are gritted

I've met the diesel pouring fairy whilst on the back of a Kawasaki ZX12R. A small piece of a Rainham roundabout will forever be embedded in my knee. The bleeding diesel pouring fairy and I have an agreement that she better bloody keep :P

I have nothing as hard core to add.

First and only time on two wheels, Moped in Alicante, took off from the rental 'shack'.... couldn't master the complexities of making a moped stop. Crashed into a roundabout. :(

If it was anything more than a 1.6 dribble you might have been going fast enough to hit something :D

I had a 'back end out' moment exiting a roundabout in the wet in my first E30, a 320i, and knocked down a 'VAUXHALL ROAD' signpost. It remained that way for yonks!

3 times I've ever "spun out" where the rear steps right out very quick/sharp doing a 180, in the dry, all at low speed, on heavy used roundabouts where a lot of lorrys and traffic go over al day , f**king scary !!!

My car e30 hasn't seen rain in 3 years now 8O

Only time I ever spun the E30 was the day I test-drove my one. The back stepped out on a damp roundabout at about 40mph, which I later attributed to the mismatched 12 year old winter tyres on the back axle.

Still, worked well for negotiating the price down :D

:D hasn't for the last 6 months tho and its glorious

But really its all down to maintenance, if you drive an e30 all year round and jet wash underside and clean arches etc and keep it all waxed and waxoyled , then you shouldn't have any problems

Trouble is ...most don't and let crud build right up

I had a much better result on my first moped experience. Hired one on holiday in Italy. Did a lap of the island with the gf on the back. Enjoyed 5 days of blissful peace as she refused to speak to me again until we got home due to my 'crazy' moped driving... :D

Drive it all year in all weather. Cars as good as these are for driving, not looking at. Done about 30k in the 2.5 years I've owned it.

She visited me too, in a 3.5 ton van, on bend, on a railway bridge. My front wheels chose to go straight on instead of around the bend.

Agreed, no point keeping your car mint for future generations to enjoy when you are dead.... One day your car will be toast, until then drove the f'n thing...

On the other hand, rinsing out arches, good paint protection and keeping on top of rust is sensible to allow you to continue enjoying your car, lots on here with sagely advice on this topic
