Modern diesels are impressive unbelievably performance figures and MPG match.

I was seriously Surprised how close they are matched performance wise.

Impressive diesel or underwhelming M3?

The M3 is just a bit odd now, it's so big, expensive and heavy that it's lost its sports car ideals and become an M5 light.

The original M3 was a classic Ham and Mozzarella pizza. BMW have added far too many toppings.
E30 Touring 0.35 cD - more slippery than prison soap :)

a manual M3 saloon tips the scales at 1500kgs. Thats not alot more than an e36 its 80kgs lighter than the v8.

I'll take the saloon this time the M4 coupe looks a bit odd compared to the saloon

Apparently 1521Kg.
Which is a surprise considering the M4 cabriolet is quoted at 1839kg.

Either the M3 is quoted in super tesco value spec or the M4 cabriolet has a yank v8 sat in the boot!

Quoting from EVO magazine
"BMW claims weight savings of over 80kg compared the cars’ predecessors, the M4 the lighter of the pair at 1497kg, down from 1580kg for the outgoing M3 coupe."

How many E92 M3s really weighed 1580kg?
The last one I was involved with made the 2 post lift struggle and that only tends to happen with transit vans and 4x4s.

A lot of new cars post weights that just can not be right, maybe if they were weighed without fluids in the most basic spec, add leather, air con, electric everything and fluids and then things seem less rosey.

I'd imagine it won't be long until the M3/M4 is either back to a 4 pot or a hybrid with artificial noise pumped into the cabin. :(

The new one does have artificial noise pumped in to the cabin

Well, technically it's just the real engine noise amplified rather than artificial noise...

Thing is, the M135i isn't that far off the pace either and saves you another 10k...
