Hey guys

I'm not sure if this is the right section to ask this question so apoligies mods if it its not!

Iv'e got a chance of getting hold of a 1988 730i for next to nothing!!

I really fancy doing the 3.5l conversion and therefore my question is, can the 3.0l motor be made into a 3.5l easily? As in do, I simply put in the crank from a 3.5 or the head from a 3.5 etc etc???

Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this but if it can be made into a 3.5l i'll go for it because the car is actually a manual so i'd have the g/box ready to rocknroll!! That must be fairly rare for a 7 series?

By the way the I started the motor today off a battery pack, I know its been standing for ages and it started on the fist twist of the key and purred like it should - thats why I love bmw's!!

Thaks for your help

Rob

i would take it solely for the gearbox and all the other parts for the swap

BUT sell on the 3.0 and just buy a 3.5 much less hassle

Oh thats a bit of a poke in the eye but if it is a load of hassle it would make sense just to take the box anyway seeing as its a bargain.

What else would I need to take from the car as I thought I only needed an E28 m535i radiator and an M3 prop in addition to the engine, box and loom?

You would need a 3.5 chip for the 3.0 ECU or the fueling will be out on a 3.5 engine
