Hi guys,
I've got an issue with my M20B25 in my BMW E21 not charging the battery.
I've checked the earths and they seem alright, although the main engine earth could do with being stronger perhaps.
Anyway, I tested the alternator with the engine running.
11.1v at the back of the alternator, same at the battery.
Then when we opened the throttle, the volts didn't change.
From what I've read the alternator should be producing between 14 and 14.5v.
Does this mean new alternator or could it just be the voltage regulator?
Dodgy Alternator?

Hi Eddie,
I had a couple of random flat batteries earlier this year, but the last one was while driving and the car needed recovering.
The advice was to change the voltage regulator, which can be done without removing the alternator from the car. Got one of ebay for about £10 and its been fine since.
