Right, I've got a very small waterpump leak on my early M20B25.
I can't for the life of me seem to seal it, I've sanded the faces of both the block and the pump, fitted a brand new BMW gasket and applied a thin layer of Hylomar Universal Blue sealant.
I was thinking of making my own cork gasket, say 1mm thick as that would provide a super tight seal, as opposed to the very thin BMW paper ones. I'm thinking cork will mould around any slight imperfections better?
Is this advisable or is it a big no-no or anything like that?
Failing that, does anyone have any suggestions?

Cork gasket would make a period repair, but these days there are much more effective alternatives that come out of a tube. Are you absolutely sure it's the gasket joint that is leaking? Seems very unlikely.

It seems to be, it's quite hard to see it though.
Where else could it be leaking from? It shouldn't be able to get through to the bolts should it, as I sometimes have coolant dripping off one of the bolts that hold the pump on?

Most likely place is out of the shaft housing...

That. I've done a lot of waterpumps recently through this fault on various cars.daimlerman wrote:Most likely place is out of the shaft housing...
Is this a new pump you've fitted?

I've taken the pump off and re-sealed it, so I'll see if it's still leaking over the next few weeks.
