Guys this will no doubt be a short 1 reply thread.. but just collected these mat locks today

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=51&fg=55

How do I fit? Does the carpet have to come out?

Screw them in through the carpet to latch your mats on.
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

You'll have to hope the fixing points aren't damaged. Two replies at least :)

lol thanks beemerbird.. The screw fixings do screw straight into the carpet and attach, so hopefully nothings damaged beneath the carpet, but the holes in the mats are too big for them to be used alone. So where do the 2 discs come into it? Because if put the discs under or over the mats, the screw isnt long enough to reach the carpet.

Probably real simple but I'm overly confused here

It looks to me that those two discs clip from above and below into the mat, making the mat hole size work?

No doesnt fit :( this makes the distance between the first disc, through the mat, and then through the second disc, longer than the thread on the screw.

Even the parts order guy at the dealers was baffled, he didnt know either.

They are genuine E30 mats for the record.

OK.....It goes like this....

Screw the Bottom item in the picture into the carpet.

The Middle item fits on the underside of the mat through the pre cut hole....

The top item then, from the top of the mat, snaps into the one fitted under the mat, so that the slot part should then be flush with the underside of the mat.

Thanks pal.. That makes sense, and I thought i was on to a winner, but as you can see by the below photo the two discs are no where near small enough to clip together through the hole. I think I've got the wrong parts or something.

Those mats need this part: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=51&fg=95

Cut the old bit of plastic out of the mat and make the hole the right size for your new clips.

I don't know whether the ones I have shown will fit you mats, but it gives you a good idea on what they should look like,

This part listed is that you need , just get part 3 , and they just screw in to the carpet and the top turn locks in to the metal bit in your carpet , they still available from bmw
