Just bought a 316i Compact for pennies, seems ok little thing but when you put your foot down in first the car kangaroos, what to I need to clean/fix to make it right, pulls away in all other gears fine and if your gentle 1st? Ideas please

Giving it a service and getting the injectors reconned would be a good start.

The intake boot is often split and opens up if you give the turd a boot full. A goosed engine mount on the N/S will exasperate the issue , allowing the gnarly donk to make a bid for freedom when give some beans.

Yep. Intake boot for certain.
They're about £35 for proper febi ones. A temporary fix with tape will make it more driveable while you wait for a replacement.
Just make sure you get one for the right engine / year as there are a few variations even though they all look the same.
Mine did the same, worse going uphill in first, where you've got maximum torque twisting the engine wich opens up the split so you lose power, torque drops, split closes, process repeats as car kangaroos.

Well done All, thought I would have a look under the bonnet while I wait for replys, maybe should have looked first lol it's the top pipe from air filter going into intake and little pipe going somewhere! Bit of gaffer tape has improved it no end, any one have a pipe!
