I'm doing all the work myself, I got the e30 to improve my knowledge on DIY for cars :) I'm stripping the carpet/door cards/boot/ wings today see what everyone's saying at the moment all I can see is wax behind the door cards :)

Rich320I wrote:to be honest alot of these cars are rusty scrap as they stand, if you are going to sell it. petes suggestions i the best way forward as someone else will see it as a project and it has more value that way.

if you want to do it yourself, as above paying someone else to do everything will cost lot. but if youv got time and can do some of the work yourself. id say a Tech1 is a worthwhile project, iv seen many worse Mk2 escorts etc welded up.
theres a thread on here under username dazleeds(pics here)

, i have that tech1 now and that started out pretty crusty, admittedly it still is a little in places :)

Go on Rich, lets have some 'gape' pics, you know you want to and I know you have LOADS ! :D

Nice one Rich, she's in good hands with Byron. Hope he's ordered some extra welding wire and gas. Keep the pics coming.

I'm just tidying it up and getting photos then deciding what to do, most likely put it on ebay but living on the isle of man is a pain.

It all just depends on what you want to end up with, if you really want a real nice tech 1 then restoring one is pretty much your only option, the time it takes to restore one you could still be waiting and searching, there's also great satisfaction and fun in doing your own restoration project, even if you did do that car properly it may cost a lot and take a long time ... But once done youl love that car and it will all be worth it

Just not this one... :)
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

well I'll put it all back together, I've lifted the carpets taken photo's the left side is pretty bad the drivers side is alright the rear bench arches are fine from what I can see, I'm going to sell because I haven't got the time or money (I'm only 20) for a big project at the moment :) one day maybe.
but for now I'm going to shampoo the interior see how that comes up, I don't think the body kit will re attach, well certainly not the rear bumper. I'm a bit disappointed but my original plan was to bring it back to my house and sell for parts but then I had the desire to maybe try and get it going which I got it going :)

I will most likely be selling on ebay if failing to sell I will sell for parts!

Strip everything, carefully , and clean wrap bag and store it all (good long term spares) being careful with every clip and nut n bolt , bag and tag , very careful with head lining removal, do it all properly taking time and care and youl have a lovely hoard ,rather than just tear it apart breaking bits

Tech 1s only came in black, silver, grey

Personally I'd hunt out a nice white or red or bronzit 325 chromie , and then put the kit, interior, headlining, carpet (depending on what color carpet was in the new car) and kit , suspension , gear box, lsd, etc etc , would be fantastic

I'd love to do such a project myself as a daily hack a

Henna red looks amazing in tech 1 but rare to find now

If you had the £££ the nice bronzit that's for sale on here and eBay for 2750 or whatever it is, although a shame to molest a nice original car, would be a great candidate ! Bear in mind all cheaper e30s will need welding and bubbly rear arches etc sorted anyway so to get a nice car like that for the right price would be a better option

The OP has no money and is 20. He has much more important things to do ( like b1tches ) than spunking a five figure sum that he has not got on a sorry turd. Leave that to the proper sad freaks :)

Well a bit of good news, it may not be the headgasket as no white smoke or anything is coming out the exhaust? I was told to check the thermostat and I did, there was a lovely pile of salty substance in the tubes and housing, would it be worth getting the engine going?

Petes right I've got things to do and have to be wise with the money I have.

But I'll hopefully get the engine going without over heating :) It was running for a good 15 minutes before it went over half, I've taken some oil out and its black as day but no creamy substance in it?

when I took the cap off it was bright cream so I thought f*ck it's the headgasket but then I may look at all the other options.

any ideas? he claimed it was the water pump but I'm pretty sure theres coolant flowing through the system maybe just getting stuck at the thermostat?

Given its been a non runner and sat in a field for some years
HG or otherwise the engine will likely need a full overhaul.

You have got her running, well done..

Don't be too alarmed at the cream under the cap / in the rocker box - when a car sits for a while condensation builds up in there and if it isn't taken for a good run every now and then it doesn't have the chance to evaporate or get burned off.

It's enough to fill any owner with feelings of dread but if the oil is black it shouldn't be anything that an oil flush and change followed by a decent thrashing shouldn't be able to fix! :D Just don't blame me if anything goes pop!

The oil is black but the coolant has like salt granules? I've taken the thermostat out but need a new housing for it, cheers for the comment
