Hi just wondering who could do a 327 conversion on my 325 tech1? What parts would be needed, what would be changed and what would a rough price be?
Im also thinking of using a fairly wild Schrick cam.
Would a 2.7 still rev like a 2.5?
Throwing money at it will probably fix it. Throwing a hammer at it is far more rewarding!

The standard but well done 2.7 conversion on its own tends to give much higher torque lower down the rev range and as a result they are naturally slower revving but quicker off the mark. This makes a good platform for tuning but takes a lot of it to get it revving as quick as a standard 2.5. The schrick in a 2.7 can actually work against the conversion because it pushes the power band back up the rev range again thus almost defeating the object of the exercise. Unless of course you are going to spend yourr whole life revving above 4000 or more rpm. You'll need to get the compression up, improve gas flow in the head, increase volume and airflow both in and out and improve the engine management plus add a vernier pulley to get the timing spot on plus a custom remap. Loads o' money and time.
I've had a professionally rebuilt 2.7 conversion (originally based on a 323i) which really suits my autobox. A very fast drivable everyday car which is quite economical to boot and will still give me track day fun. I have headwork done plus BBtB/MAF and custom mapping. I probably won't go much further as it will upset the nice balance of usage.
There are loads of threads on this conversion which you will find if you use the search function.

The most common conversion uses the crank from a 535e although some would opt for the deisel crank (524e I think) as this is stronger particularly if you are going to a high state of tune. Getting the best pistons you can afford really makes a difference. You can use the rest of the engine with some machining. As I said, many zoners have done this conversion and there are many views as to the best route. So spend some time reading some past threads before you put your hand in your pocket!!
