Had a issue with the heater (only working on 4) so did the research, looked at e30 wiki and other threads regarding removal of the blower motor.

Thought it would be a piece of cake, so started work on it and when i removed the bulkhead panel i was greated with this:

I was looking out for some white straps, that i had seen when looking at various online threads and a sort of cover under that

Well i proceeded to remove the outer panels to expose the blower motor and it looked like this underneath:

Firstly a lot of mess and debris that got clogged up in the fan blades itself.

But it also looked like non of the heater blower motors i had seen when looking at online removals guides. i hadn't seen many if any this these two big "air scoops" underneath each fan.

I wanted to know if my blower motor is correct for an '89 325i? As someone has clearly been here before me. And as what i found when i removed the panel matched nothing i had seen online.

And after all that i couldn't get a metal strap off to remove the motor :(

Probably you've been looking at sites such as bimmerforums and r3v, which are mostly populated by Americans. The Yanks very often had aircon, and as such their blowers look very different - two white straps, as you said.

Don't worry, for a standard non aircon car, your blower is exactly what it should be. And to get the metal strap off you just prise off one end with a screwdriver - it's only a spring clip.

Thanks for clearing that up, had me worried.

Regarding the metal clip, where do i prise it off from, towards the front or back?

My heater valve is also leaking, and wandered are new ones available (apart from bmw) doesnt appear as if Euro car parts of GSF sell them.
