Will the central locking still work if it has no central locking gear at all in the drivers door?
Mine doesn't seem to work and hasn't worked for a while but now it's all partly repaired I want it too.
You have to lock the drivers door with the key ?
Or is this the red/black wire mod needed
Or possibly the alarm battery exploded a while back but still seemed to work :? .(got the original BMW alarm)

With no central locking gear at all in the driver's door, then obviously locking the driver's door with a key will not set any other of the locks, nor will locking the passenger door or boot with a key (or with a remote fob) lock the driver's door.
You will also not be able to set the deadlocks, but apart from that, the central locking should work as normal.

So if I'm right you do the red/black wire mod from the car side not the door right.
The door was changed in an accident that's why all the confusion about has no central locking gear in it just the lock.
Just connect the 2 wires together right ?
Would the alarm not working affect this ?

Surely it's easy enough to just put all the central locking bits back in

Red/black wire mod. is performed through the hole created by removing the speaker trim panel and the speaker itself from the driver's footwell.

Lock motor, linkage from the lock motor, plate that goes under lock barrel retaining clip, wiring loom with securing clips and possibly the correct alloy L shaped arm assembly on the back of the lock barrel.
