It will not open on the first turn, I have to keep on turning the key until it open's
The car is central locking. can anyone help me please?

I'd have said the lock barrel is playing up/worn out, it's not an expensive fix as you can get a repair kit for about 17 quid from BMW.

Would you advise to change the complete lock set, or just spray a lubricant into the lock barrel

Wish I could mate. But when he gave me the car it was on the understanding that If I owned the e30 then I would have to learn about them. Hench do the previous work with neil, but I would like to do something of my own back.

I'd say try doing the job your self but i don't know how experianced you are mechanically ?

The gist of the job is........

remove the door card
unclip the lock barrel from in side of the door
read this guide for stripping and rebuilding the lock
http://www.bmwe30.net/cgi-bin/datacgi/d ... Section=01

re-fit new lock and door card

I reckon its the hinged over centre bit on the end of the barrel that's seized up. Still have to take the barrel out though.
While it's out, the arm of the deadlock microswitch can be bent slightly, and the two fingers from the door catch that engage with the (worn) alloy arm on the end of the barrel can be bent slightly with a long screwdriver so that the contact an unworn part of the alloy.
