Hello all,

First, let me apologise for my lack of activity on here. I've been incredibly busy since I bought my car back in November of last year! I will upload some pics soon, I just need to get round to taking some

I've got a 1990 316i LUX 2 door coupe in Brilliantrot. The bodywork is good, some rusting around the bottom of the front N/S wing and the O/S back bumper (looks like someone's reversed it into a curb or small wall at some point and the rust has set in :( ) and the other inevitable rust bubbles and spots.

I bought her with a complete service history from new with BMW services all the way until 2004! I'm only the third owner too winkeye with lots of receipts and invoices from BMW garages for work done on her. Naturally I expected everything to be perfect. I'm only 21 so forgive my naivety :)

So far I've had a new N/S rear wheel bearing done and both clutch cylinders replaced. She's going in for a timing belt and the O/S rear wheel bearing fairly soon, then next on the list is the power steering which leaks and doesn't work at all!

After that I need the central locking sorting out, which also doesn't work at all then she'll be making a trip to the body shop to get the rustier bits seen to.

At the minute, I'm looking for a leather interior. I've seen a few good ones out of the touring (the seats don't fold flat but I can just use that as an excuse not to have passengers in the back) for reasonably cheap. I found a set of dark grey leathers for £40 about an hour away from me but they'd sold  The MTech ones are outrageously expensive so unless anyone has a set for sale for less than £250 I'll be giving them a miss.

If anyone has any or knows of any with a set for sale (cheapy cheapy mind you winkeye ) can you let me know? I'd prefer black ideally but I'm open to suggestions!

So, that's the car. Thanks for reading :D

Power steering leak will be an MOT test failure, so needs to be sorted. Look up E46 rack conversions on here.
For the central locking issue, look up the 'red/black wire modification' in the wiki, and do it anyway, whether or not it cures the problem.
ALL E30 seats have the folding mechanism. The ones that don't fold have the cables and levers missing. Always worth swapping the driver's and passenger seats over when you buy a seccond hand set. It moves all the wearing bits to the other side of the seat, plus a passenger seat is usually less worn than a driver's so greatly increases the life of the seats.

Really? The garage I bought it from put it through with it like that!

I've heard of the red/black wire mod before so I'll look into it once I've got some more of the bigger issues fixed.

I'm aware that I may be making my car sound like a right shed, but you'd be surprised. In reality there's very little wrong, just a handful of age related failings. You'll see once I get some photos up :)

If it was sold to you by a trader, then they are obliged to repair it FOC, since it is not roadworthy. The problem you will have is that
I see you bought it seven months ago, and presumably have no evidence that the leak was present when you bought it.

Thanks for the info! That's exactly the problem, I didn't realise they had to repair it at the time. I have no way of proving it either as you say.

Well you learn something new every day and I'll know in future!

It does depend how bad the leak is and where as to whether it should go through an MOT or not.

It's not horrific. I top up the reservoir every couple of months just to keep some fluid in the system but it's not like I'm replacing it all the time.
