Is there a spring loaded type strut that will open all the way without pushing it up yourself?

The new struts on my Touring do that; the old ones didn't because they were shagged (oil weeping past the seals).
Don't know enough about Saloon bodies to know if they have an equivalent mechanism.

The saloon's use torsion bars. You can adjust the tension of them to a limited degree. Helps to do that if you put a spoiler on otherwise the boot falls down all the time.

If there's no boot spoiler fitted, winding the torsion bars up to full might just do it.

Is this what was done by BMW to compensate for the extra weight of the Mtech boot spoiler?Brianmoooore wrote:If there's no boot spoiler fitted, winding the torsion bars up to full might just do it.
If so, I can confirm that when the spoiler is removed (and with nothing adjusted), the boot lid opens fully with some force! I would think with a bit of trial and error, it could be made to open fully without trying to bend itself or smash the rear window.
