I think because
1. whether they can tell me more about its history
2. Could give me any history or receipts should they have any
3. I want to know whether they were Yuppies or bruvs ?

To be fair, it's not unusual or unheard of.
You can apply to the DVLA for coppies of all the old V5 log books which have their name and address on.

I do wonder whether any previous owners of mine were Zoners ?
Mine should have been dead along time ago
But I feel like a HERO now helping bring it back

You could contact the last 11 owners and one of them will have a spare key for your car and then you can kiss it goodbye.. Ever thought of that ?

I have obtained the previous owner information from DVLA on my 325i. Fill in the required form and include a cheque for £5 and a 'legitimate reason' for wanting the information, I said I was restoring a classic car and wanted to find out if it had any famous owners (just make something up, sound genuine, not like some weirdo who is going to harass previous owners).
4 weeks later an envelope dropped through the letter box with everything the DVLA held on my car. Owner information (so where the car has lived), various private plates it had, 'DJ1' was one, totaling 20 odd pages of photocopied documents dating back to '86. You would be surprised what they keep in Swansea. Really adds to the history/story of the car IMO.
